Members As you know, York Region has seen as recent upsurge in new COVID-19 cases. To address this, York Region has been given a Red-Control designation to drive new case numbers down. This is causing delays in the start of indoor soccer. While fall indoor soccer is unlikely, WSSC volunteers and staff continue to plan towards a possible indoor season sometime in the New Year, with safety being the top priority.... We do have some good news from before the recent upsurge. WSSC was able to enter two U8B teams and an U10B team into an end of season YRSA outdoor tournament from mid-September to early October. All 3 teams had winning records and performed very well considering they had not practised all summer. Back in March the WSSC Board of Directors set up a COVID-19 Advisory Committee. Its task was to monitor the pandemic, communicate/plan with other soccer entities and investigate the major issues surrounding a possible Return to Play. This Committee continues to monitor the situation and to plan towards a Return to Play as soon as it is safe to do so. As a reminder, any registration fees paid for cancelled 2020 summer programs will be held as a credit for future programs. If you prefer, you can get a refund by communicating such a request with the WSSC office. We at WSSC thank you for your understanding and for your continued support during this difficult State of Emergency. Thanks and Stay Safe WSSC Board of Directors, Volunteers and Staff
Members As you are aware, soccer games and tournaments have not been possible in Ontario this summer due to Ontario’s COVID-19 State of Emergency. It is therefore with regret that the Whitchurch-Stouffville Soccer Club (WSSC) had to cancel the 2020 summer season for recreational house league play.... Regarding competitive play, a few of our competitive teams will be entering end of season competitive tournaments. This was made possible on September 4 when Ontario Soccer announced that after consultation with the Province of Ontario and Canada Soccer, that as of September 17, 2020 . (Ontario Soccer) will now incorporate and permit modified games between different Clubs/Academies. Clubs/Academies, may now participate in organized sanctioned competitions with other Clubs/Academies within the same region. WSSC is pleased to announce, in response to this policy change, that we have entered 2 competitive teams into a CSL tournament to be held from mid-September to early October. And we have entered two competitive teams into YRSL tournaments over a similar period of time. In addition, WSSC volunteers and staff are actively planning towards a possible indoor season for this fall and/or winter, again with safety being the top priority. You should be hearing news on that in early October. By way of background, back in March the WSSC Board of Directors set up a COVID-19 Advisory Committee. Its task was to monitor the pandemic, communicate/plan with other soccer entities and investigate the major issues surrounding a possible Return to Play. Those issues included safety (being the top priority), format options (shortened schedules, tournaments versus leagues), modified rules, liability risk, the imminent end of summer and the current Stage 3 Government Status (which previously required 2 metre distancing). Much of that ground work has made our entry into the CSL and YRSL tournaments possible. Any registration fees paid for cancelled 2020 summer programs will be held as a credit for future programs. If you prefer, you can get a refund by communicating such a request with the WSSC office. We at WSSC thank you for your understanding and for your continued support during this difficult State of Emergency. Thanks and Stay Safe WSSC Board of Directors, Volunteers and Staff
Members: The WSSC Board of Directors has decided to postpone its Return to Play until the Government of Ontario passes an emergency order requested by Ontario Soccer (see Bulletin #: A2020-017). We are doing this because we care about the safety and well-being of our members, coaches, volunteers and staff. That safety and well-being is also the Board’s top priority and responsibility.... Once this emergency order is passed, WSSC will immediately execute our existing Return to Play plan under Ontario Soccer’s Phase 2. Our field staff and coaching team have been working hard on this plan and are ready to move on it as soon as they get the go ahead. By way of background, on Tuesday July 21, Ontario Soccer acknowledged that a serious liability risk exists for participants in soccer’s Return to Play even if signed waivers exist. Ontario deems this risk to be serious enough that it, along with Ontario Non-Profit Network ONN), is calling on the Government of Ontario to take immediate action to pass an emergency order that provides Good Samaritan protection to the amateur sport sector. Participants at risk include Coaches, Volunteers, Field Marshals, Soccer Clubs, their Directors and Staff. In March, the WSSC Board of Directors set up a COVID-19 Advisory Committee. Its task was to monitor the pandemic, communicate/plan with other soccer entities and investigate the major issues surrounding a possible Return to Play. Those issues included Health Risk, Waivers and Liability, Season Start/End Options, Potential Program(s) and Possible Registration Fee Adjustments. A significant amount of work has been invested by our field staff, coaches and this committee. WSSC are hoping that our members can soon take advantage of that hard work with a Return to Play.
We need your help. Please consider reading and taking action ASAP.
