Yesterday, I was asked if I would get vaccinated against the SARS-COV-2 virus - the one that causes COVID-19. When a vaccine that has been approved by Health Ca...nada is made available to me, yes, I will be vaccinated. (It may be a while, because I'm not in any of the higher need groups.) I trust Health Canada's approval process. I understand it to be rigorous, focused on the health and safety of all Canadians. After I received the required dosage of vaccine, I will continue to: - wear a mask; - wash my hands; - and maintain physical distance from those outside my household, until I am given the direction to do otherwise by Health Canada. Why? Because although we know that the vaccines that are and will be approved are efficacious, effective, and safe, and will protect the person who has received the vaccine, the data is not in on whether or not the vaccine will lower the ability for the virus to be transmitted to someone else. More time is needed before that question will be able to be answered. And, anyway, washing my hands regularly is a good idea, and wearing a mask when I have a cough, even without this specific virus in mind strikes me as a good idea too. (Though I am *definitely* looking forward to the time in the future when we can gather in community again!) I hope, too, that Canada, and countries like Canada, who have the economic and political resources, will work to ensure that vaccines are available around the world - that communities in the global south will have the access they need, too. Covid-19 is a global pandemic that needs a global support for a global response.

Soldiers CEO sounds call for more masks to be worn, and made! ( We have a team making them here at St. Pauls) The President and CEO of Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is calling on all residents to wear masks more frequently while out in public and to consider joining those making home-made masks to aid in the battle against COVID-19.... Were at a real critical juncture in the battle against this pandemic, said Carmine Stumpo. As businesses re-open, visitor traffic increases and people gather in larger numbers, we simply cant afford to become complacent. We want to ensure anyone who needs a mask can get one, and the best way to do that is to flood the community with supply so I encourage anyone with the ability to make masks, from local clothing companies to volunteers, to consider doing so. Stumpo says wearing a mask while out in public, maintaining physical distancing wherever possible, and washing hands frequently with alcohol-based hand sanitizer remain the keys to success.
