Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Ada Perriman who was a faithful hardworking member of the St. Paul’s family. May all who grieve find comfort in God’s warm embrace.
The sympathy of our congregation is extended to the Gerber family as they grieve the loss of Cindy. Oakridge Acres is well-known to our community, and Cindy's death will be felt deeply by those who knew her warm and generous presence. May all who grieve Cindy feel God's comforting arms wrapped around them in the hard days ahead. Rest well, thy good and faithful servant.
Some of you got to know George Barasa while he lived at St. Paul’s Place from September 2019 to October 2020 as a refugee sponsored by CORE. On January 11th, a terrible house fire broke out at the home George moved to in Hamilton, and as you’ll see in the details of the Go Fund Me page, he and his roommates have lost everything. A friend of theirs has set up a GO Fund Me page to help these 3 housemates as they rebuild what has been lost. Please click on the link for more details, or to make a donation. You will notice that George is referred to as Joe, which is another name he goes by. We lift up these 3 young men to God in prayer for all that has been lost, and for the uncertainty of the days ahead. May they feel supported and loved in this challenging time.
This past Sunday we heard Rev. Maya preach about Jesus and Hell. The notion of who will go to heaven and who will go to hell has been a debate throughout the ages for Christians, and the word hell itself has traditionally been considered a swear word for many households around the globe. So what do you think of this word? Or the idea of hell as an eternal destination? If so, what does it look like? What do the scriptures say? These are big questions for a big subject, let's ...chat it out! Happy Tuesday, Rev. Sarah
This week's check-in is a day later as the last 24 hours have had a lot of news to take in! The latest restrictions here in Ontario will not impact worship offerings online, and the office email and phone messages will continue to be monitored throughout the week. Life may feel frustrating, chaotic, lonely, sad, or downright impossible at this time, but I pray you know that you are not alone. Please continue to reach out and let us know if you need anything, even just someon...e to listen to you as you vent! We will get through this together. May God's love, comfort, and strength be felt in all that you do this day, and in the days ahead my friends, Rev. Sarah
Today we are grateful to Patricia Watson from Bedford UC in Nova Scotia as she shares Some history about the Black National Anthem Lift Every Voice and Sing.
Please enjoy today's service of worship with our first "United Ministers" guest preacher, Michael Shewburg, who offers us his reflection on the Gospel of Luke as Jesus calls the first disciples to follow him. Peace and Grace, Rev. Sarah
Today, welcome our guest preacher, Rev. Maya Landell, who tackles this weeks sermon titled "Jesus and Hell." I hope you are safe, healthy, and warm this blessed Sunday! Rev. Sarah
I am grateful to my friend and colleague, Rev. Isaac Mundy of Trenton United Church, for his words around yesterday's terrifying events at the Capital buildings in Washington. As I cannot seem to find any adequate words of my own today, I simply add the words of our New Creed to Isaac's reflection. These words have always been a great comfort to me in the dark moments of life: We are not alone, we live in God’s world.... We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. May you feel God's peace, hope, and love surrounding you all this day, Rev. Sarah
A little food for thought today
Happy New Year to All! How are we doing so far in 2021? What intentions are you setting for the year ahead? Today we are thinking about Jesus and his early years, his coming of age, and what each and every story we know of him has to teach us. This week let us grow in our own wisdom by listening, learning, and asking questions. Peace and Faith, ... Rev. Sarah See more
The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Yvonne Turner and family on the passing of her beloved husband, Harlow. Harlow was a longtime member of St. Paul’s UC, and was a fixture of the Paris community through his work at the Paris Post Office. His presence on this earth will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held later at Paris Cemetery. Holy God, we lift our brother, Harlow, up to you, praying that he is at peac...e, and leaning on Your everlasting arms. We give thanks for his goodness, and all the love he shared with his family and dear friends. We give thanks that his struggles of the last little while are over, and that despite these struggles, he never lost his faith in You. Surround all who grieve this loss with Your constant care, and hold them in Your loving arms. These things we pray to You in sincerity, in hope, and in the name of Jesus Christ, the light of the world, Amen. See more
The stories that shape us is the topic for this week's check in. Do you have a story from your personal life, or a story of your community of faith that has shaped who you are today? The scriptures are a collection of stories that both inspire, and challenge us. How do we use these stories to increase our understanding of God, and deepen our own faith? Big questions this week as we continue along the road together! Grace and Peace!... Rev. Sarah See more

Conversation is necessary to help us deepen our relationships, and our understanding of God and one another. What happens when we stop talking though? Or worse, what happens when we stop listening? So, lets talk! Happy Tuesday! Rev. Sarah
Happy Saturday everyone! This is a friendly reminder that there will not be an in-person service of worship tomorrow at St. Paul's United Church in Paris. Instead, we are asking folks to tune in to the Horseshoe Falls Regional Council celebration of ministries service that will be live-streamed on Youtube at 10 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community of faith to witness the ordination and commissioning of new members from our region to the order of ministry i...n the United Church of Canada. The link for the service is down below. With peace and grace, Rev. Sarah
Happy Sunday! We hope everyone is doing well, and staying safe on this snowy, blowy day. Please enjoy our service of worship from this morning. Peace and Grace, Rev. Sarah
In the times when words fail us, the simplicity of music can help us to hold on. Our musical meditations today are offered lovingly by our Music Director, Dr. Erika Reiman, and Laurel Grieve. On this day, we remember those who have been gathered from the storms of war, into the peace of God's presence. May the peace of Christ be ours this day, and in all the days ahead as we continue to work for justice and harmony in God's world.

Join us this Sunday, September 27, 2020 for an in-person, outdoor service of worship and camp fire with Richwood United church! We will be gathering for a 10:30 a.m. service of worship with "bring your own communion elements" at Five Oaks Centre... located at 1 Bethel Road. There is plenty of space for us to spread out. Dress for the weather as it maybe be a little chillier than in the past. The rules and regulations in place in order for us to offer this service are the same as previously. We continue to work diligently with the local health unit for Brant County, as well as following guidelines from our provincial and federal health ministers, to make this service happen, but we do recognize that that there are those who don’t feel comfortable taking part in an in-person service of worship, and those who are not able to attend for other reasons. We will be posting an online option as well for those who are not able to join us. https://mailchi.mp/c5532a0/sunday-service-march-22-4715957
