REGISTRATION FOR CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS MASSES Because of the prospect of a larger than usual number of parishioners wishing to be able to attend the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Masses, for those Masses ONLY, we have made a change in the registrations... process in order to be fair to everyone. To register for any one of the three Christmas Eve Masses or the two Christmas Day Masses, you MUST CALL THE PARISH OFFICE or REGISTER IN PERSON AT THE PARISH OFFICE. You are asked to be considerate of others and register for only one of either the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Masses and not both days. Also, registration for families will be limited to a total of 6 persons. Registrations for these Masses will be accepted beginning December 14th. Since we are still only allowed 100 persons for each Mass, this is the only way we can be fair to everyone. Christmas Eve masses will be at 4:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Masses on Christmas morning at 8:30 am and 10:30 am. Thank you for your understanding. Fr. Maurice See more

BETTY AFFLECK, OUR PARISH SECRETARY IS RETIRING. It is hard to believe but after a little over 35 years of dedicated commitment to this parish community and in particular to most of the administrative tasks associated with the functioning of the parish, on August 27 th , 2020,... Betty Affleck will be retiring. I would hazard to count the number of staff, including Pastors, Associates and seminarians who she has seen pass through these office doors over those years. She would have seen so many unbelievable changes in the way most of the office and administrative duties were done throughout those years. She had been the consistent one who has had the responsibility of breaking in new pastors every 6-8 years. They have come and gone, but Betty has remained. And we truly thank her for her dedication and professionalism that she has shown over those years. Under normal circumstances, we would certainly have loved to hold an open house to acknowledge our appreciation for her many years of service. However, because of COVID-19, we know to attempt a gathering of any type is impossible. Therefore since her last days of work in the parish office will be Monday, August 24th to Thursday, August 27th , we invite parishioners (of course not large numbers at one time) to pop into the parish office for an opportunity to express your thanks to Betty for her commitment to this parish community, and our best wishes for a long healthy and happy retirement. Letter from the Pastor - PARISH COVID-19 UPDATE: Dear parishioners, We have been doing fine with our weekday Masses, averaging between 30-40 each morning and so fortunately we havent had to turn anyone away. And I thank all those who were present for the masses this past week for being so good in following all the directions you were given. This will be a learning curve for all of us, including myself, because we are being asked to change what we have been accustomed to... doing for years. We continue to work on an operational plan to submit to the provincial government for approval that will enable us to begin with weekend masses for two groups of 50 for a total of 100 people, including myself. Hopefully we will be able to develop a plan that will comply with all provincial guidelines and diocesan directives while providing a safe environment for those who will be in attendance. Once we have submitted our operational plan and have received approval from the government, I will let you know. In the meantime, for our weekends, we will continue to provide our Live stream Mass on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. I do thank parishioners for your patience and understanding as we try the best we can to ease through this difficult time. May God continue to bless each and every one of you during this difficult time. Fr. Maurice See more

Letter from the Pastor: INFORMATION REGARDING OPENING FOR WEEKDAY MASSES Dear Parishioners, Beginning Monday, June 29th, we will resume our 9 am weekday Masses; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For each of these Masses, only 50 people are allowed in attendance, and that includes myself. Because we can only have 50 people in attendance at any given time, there might be days when the number wishing to attend will exceed 50. If this is what we experience, then as a suggesti...on, especially for those who have been in the practice of attending Mass daily that they attend every second day as a way of allowing others an opportunity to be able to attend a weekday Mass also. To help in the way of some guidance I am providing you with the following information. In order for us to begin with weekday Masses and to remain open, we have to comply with the directives we have been given to follow by the Provincial Chief Officer of Health and the Diocese of Charlottetown. In order for us to have some control over allowing people to enter this church facility, even though some people have been in the habit of arriving at church an hour or more before the 9 am Mass begins, beginning immediately, the Church will only be opened at 8:30 am. As well: 1). Church entrances and exits will be clearly marked. {The side doors will be used as entrances and the main front door as the Exit} 2). Upon entering the Church, one person from each household in attendance will need to sign in for provincial contact tracing. 3). Seating is marked to ensure social distancing. 4). Every second seat is not available and is roped off. 5). There will be floor markings in centre isle for safe distribution of Holy Communion. {Communion will only be received on the hand} 6). The only washroom available is the one on the main level by the sacristy door. {Washrooms on the lower level will not be accessible} 7). There will be no server for any weekday masses. I will have a table next to the altar for everything I need. This information will hopefully help diminish some of the confusion we might experience in this new way of being Church. Thank you and God Bless. Fr. Maurice, Pastor See more

PARISH NEWS June 7, 2020 Letter from the Pastor: COVID-19 EASING OF RESTRICTIONS.As of June 1st, Phase 3 allows for 15 people to gather indoors and 20 peopl...e outdoors, with physical distancing being maintained at 6 feet. For some parishes this could mean that some liturgical ceremonies could take place beginning on that June 1st date. However, people need to understand that it is not just a matter of opening the door and allowing people ion. There are many other issues and directives from the Provincial Health Authority that need to be followed. One of the bigger issues for a parish the size of St. Pius X, is how do you restrict or control entry for only 15 people. With that in mind, for the time being, we will only be providing our Sunday live stream Mass at 10:30 am. As well, we will be providing funeral Masses, when needed, but only if we are able to comply with the Provincial Health regulations of having only 15 people present. For any funerals during this time, there will be no choir and no reception. Also, now that our church lighting project is complete, the church will be open for individual private prayer time Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. However, please note that for those who do access the church during those hours, you are required to sign the sheet in the binder on the table in the church foyer with the information which is required by the Provincial Health Authority for contact-tracing purposes. We are required to do this in order for us to remain open. This is not a suggestion but the law. You will need to include the date, your name, contact phone number and the time. I do thank parishioners for their patience and understanding as we try the best we can to ease through this difficult time. As soon as I receive any further information as to if and when we will be able to provide any other liturgical ceremonies, I will pass that information on to you. God Bless and please continue to pray for all those especially who are residents in our nursing homes as well as the frontline workers who are caring for them. Blessings on you all. Fr. Letter from Bishop Grecco: Dr. Heather Morrisons Office has responded to our submission of a draft Protocol for Sunday Masses. The Public Health Office currently is reviewing it and will contact the Diocese to discuss and advise recommendations. A timeline for returning to Sunday Mass has not been mentioned. When Sunday Mass and the Sacraments resume, we will be entering what has been called the new normal. This means that for the sake of safety our Sunday Assemblies will... look different; as well, our usual social patterns in Church will change. Social distancing, sanitizing surfaces and effectively communicating the meaning of the Protocol to parishioners will all be a part of the new normal. In particular, Pastors will have the responsibility to ensure that the Protocol is implemented and followed. We must be vigilant to keep our parishioners and communities as safe as possible. The Protocol will help to convince our people that a return to the Eucharist is safe for them, their families and the community. Waiting for the day when Sunday Mass resumes, reflects the mood of the season of Advent; waiting expectantly for Gods blessings. So lets not wait ineffectively; let us pray that we will enter the new normal prepared and determined to prevent an outbreak or spreading of the virus. Again, Fathers, I extend to you my gratitude for your faithful service during these difficult days. I am encouraged by the creative means of outreach you have taken to serve the people of your parishes and I commend the efforts made to continue celebrating the sacraments such as Confession and Anointing. Your extensive efforts to live-stream the Mass has helped many people to connect with the liturgical season, the Word and their prayer life. Thank you. Sincerely yours in Christ, Bishop Richard Grecco
