New partnership looks to grow Coldest Night of the Year walk in Stratford Stratford, ON The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is returning to Stratford once again in February and this year Stratford-Perth Shelterlink (Shelterlink) is recruiting a new partner to help with the annual event focusing on the issue of homelessness. We’re happy to announce United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) is joining us in partnership on this year’s CNOY in Stratford, said Shelterlink Board Chair and... President Martin Ritsma. The community support has been amazing the past six years that Shelterlink has been involved in CNOY. Now, we’re excited to invite another great local organization to work with us to grow the event and help even more local people. CNOY is a family friendly walk raising money for hungry, hurting and homeless people in the community, happening this year on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Last year 144 communities from across Canada took part in the event, with the Stratford walk raising over $40,000. For more information, and to watch for updates on registering as an individual or a team, visit cnoy.org In September of 2020, 107 individuals identified themselves as experiencing homelessness in Stratford, St. Marys and Perth County, with 97 of those experiencing chronic homelessness. Given that it’s estimated 80 per cent of homelessness is hidden, many more local people are likely facing this issue on a daily basis. About Stratford-Perth Shelterlink Stratford/Perth Shelterlink provides Perth County youth ages 16-24, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, with shelter, basic needs, support, community aid and advocacy services. In order to keep everyone safe and healthy we are postponing our 30th Annual Black Swan Coffee House Revival to 2021. If you are able, please consider donating via the attached link to support Shelterink in continuing to provide shelter, services and supports for homeless or at risk youth in Stratford and Perth County. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/12559 <3

Our deepest thanks to Pastor Kirk Ehrhart, his team and the congregation at North Park Stratford Ministries for the generous donation of gift cards and transit tickets for our youth. All of us at Shelterlink are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of donors like yourself who answer the call to give, and we are deeply appreciative of your goodwill to our vulnerable population and shelter. As we all continue our efforts to remain healthy and safe during COVID-19, we are all holding on to the belief that things will work out. It all starts with just a little bit of hope and trust.

Request for non-perishable food items for the shelter. In these unprecedented times the shelter is still helping those in need and wanting to keep everyone safe and healthy. If you are able to donate any non-perishable food items to the shelter they would be much appreciated. Please call the shelter at 519-272-2294 to coordinate a drop off outside for the staff to pick it up. All donations are cleaned and isolated before being put into storage. Thank you in advance for your help and generosity through these times!!

Thank you to our community for the immediate response to our request for non-perishable food items. At this time we would like to let you all know that the Stratford House of Blessing Food Bank has arranged to package up non-perishable food items, meat, cheese and milk that Shelterlink staff can pick up every Friday. This will allow our youth to remain on the premises so they do not have to go out for food which will decrease the risk to our community and youth. Our need has been met..THANK YOU All So Very Much

Wow. Wow. Wow. Tomorrow, we send all of our paperwork to Coldest Night of The Year and we deposit the funds raised into the bank. Coldest Night tabulates all of the results and issues all of the tax receipts for over 150 agencies like ours across Canada. This processing can take up to 6 weeks. Therefore, the webpage will remain at 87% of our goal until our specific results are all tabulated and the page is updated by Coldest Night. I will let you know when that number is offi...cially posted. We do want you to know that from our rough calculations last night, we are of the belief that we ended up at about $45,000. Donations can still be made in the two weeks following the event so please feel free to share that with anyone if they are interested. We have more donations expected this week. We have absolutely loved sharing these winter months with you and the walk yesterday with you was the icing on our cake! Thank you so very much for your co-mitt-ment and the outstanding fundraising effort that occurred on our behalf in these last few weeks has been outstanding! You are a significant partner in caring for the youth that we serve. On behalf of our Board of Directors, Staff and YouthTHANK YOU!!! We love you! It is cold out there. We needed you. You were there. You are warm. And, you made a huge difference.
