WATSONVILLE FROM 1,000 FEET! What a beautiful patchwork of strawberry fields at all stages of development. What is concerning this year is the amount of Fusariu...m wilt present in many fields. If you look at the bottom photo, you see how severe the disease can be. One of our best answers to this disease is host plant resistance, but it will take a few years to sort out which varieties perform best and meet the many expectations of growers and consumers (e.g., yield, earliness, flavor, texture, disease and pest resistance, and overall performance under a wide variety of weather conditions).
