A number of years ago I digitized the historic map of Colchester County circa 1874, known as "The Church Map" copies of these 4'x4' maps hung in the county scho...olhouses of the day. I used this map to locate the farms and homes of my ancestors, their schoolhouse, church etc. and learned who their neighbors were.... when used along with the 1871 census it makes a fascinating resource that has helped me time and time again to locate the exact location my ancestors lived !! This eBook contains 82 color maps and an index to guide you to various towns and districts in the county. These maps record the roadways (many long gone) with the location of each house in the county and the name of the resident families marked beside them, Schoolhouses, Churches, Cemeteries, Mills, Stores, Shops, Hotels etc. Below is a sample of the Five Islands area..... eBook Price: $30.00 to purchase a copy private message me your emaill address and make EMTpayment with password ebook to [email protected] and I will email your copy to you. Happy Canada Day! On July 1, 1867, the nation was officially born when the Constitution Act joined three provinces into one country: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province, which then split into Ontario and Quebec. However, Canada was not completely independent of England until 1982. The holiday called Dominion Day was officially established in 1879, but it wasn't observed by many Canadians, who considered themselves to be British citizens. Dominion Day started ...to catch on when the 50th anniversary of the confederation rolled around in 1917. In 1946, a bill was put forth to rename Dominion Day, but arguments in the House of Commons over what to call the holiday stalled the bill. The 100th anniversary of the nation's official creation in 1967 saw the growth of the spirit of Canadian patriotism, and Dominion Day celebrations really began to take off. Although quite a few Canadians already called the holiday Canada Day (Fête du Canada), the new name wasn't formally adopted until October of 1982.

This day in history, July 1, 1867, the Dominion of Canada becomes a nation, composed of the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario, with J...ohn A. Macdonald as the nation's first Prime Minister. An interesting fact about the founding provinces of Confederation is that they all at one point were initially part of New France. Confederation was first officially proposed by Lord Durham in 1839 in his Report on the Affairs of British North America. Various issues and conferences all worked toward the Charlottetown Conference of 1864 in which the plan for confederation came together. The outcome of that conference was drafted into the British North America Act, which was approved by the British Parliament and given royal assent by Queen Victoria on March 29, 1867. Since 1867, six more provinces and three territories have become part of the Dominion, and the population has grown from 2.5 million at the time of confederation to some 32 million people today. Despite being far from perfect, no other country in the world comes as close to it as Canada, which is the greatest nation of all in many areas. See more
