BREATHE STRETCH MOVE is a 6 week progressive class series focused on deepening physical embodiment and resilience. Under the guidance of experienced bodyworkers and movement coaches, we will explore how to dissect and figure out the restrictions in our bodies and beings that are holding us back. ... For us, stretching is a gateway to healthy, embodied movement that feels goooood. Stretching creates energy flow in the body which is essential for healing and creates space for better movement patterns. Stretching feels good when done properly, and can shift our nervous system into the parasympathetic branch which promotes relaxation (also needed for healing!) Stretching brings awareness into areas of the body that may be neglected. When we have good body awareness, we kno...w how to better care for ourselves. Stretching can reveal our blind spots. Stretching correctly can help muscles activate more during strength training, resulting in more power and force transmission. Not all stretching is the same. The work we do takes into consideration the Fascial network as well as individual muscles and joints. Depending on your age, activity level, injury history and preferred sports, stretching is different for everyone. Here is a recent article in the Globe and Mail featuring FST! One thing this article mentions however, is that this technique of stretching is completely passive. While there are passive elements to this work, the way we do it is not always passive. The client actively contributes to the session, and we find this to be very beneficial in integrating the work into actual usable movement.
