Common struggles of depression immense difficulty with completing day to day activities including leaving the house, having a shower, getting off bed, and cooking a meal. Other common struggles include socializing, concentrating on things (i.e., conversations, work), getting pleasure out of something and connecting with the world (i.e., being attentive to someone else’s needs). Here are small (yet effective) ways to support a loved one! ... 1. Reach out and create a conversation. Remind them of a memory you have recalled. 2. Avoid telling them to seek help. Instead, research one for them, offer to help financially, or schedule the appointment for them. 3. Considering they struggle with doing everyday tasks, offer to pick up groceries for them or help clean up. 4. Experience togetherness virtually - watch a show together online or have a virtual dinner together. 5. Plan a future event together so they have something to look forward to. 6. Stride Psychology is based out of #Calgary, AB and they offer psychological services for individuals of all ages built on the foundation of their core values which include #optimism, #empathy, non-judgement and #acceptance. Their team has also done a significant amount of work in the #community by hosting workshops, seminars, and lectures so we are looking forward to having them work with our cohort over the course of this year. Our guest speakers are Simren Jhuty and Snanna Virk. Simren is the Founder of Stride Psychology and is a Psychologist in Calgary. She is registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists and has extensive experience working with individuals who come from diverse families, cultures, and backgrounds. Snanna is a Certified Professional Coach, specializing in Mental Health and is the Founder of Kids Lead - a program that focuses on helping youth develop emotional regulation and social skills.
