It's 2020!! Time to make a New Year's Resolution to finally learn how to play the ukulele!! This is just to let you know that we are going to be running a 90 minute BEGINNER INTRODUCTORY COURSE on Saturday, January 18th, from 10:00 11:30am. LOCATION will be in Dundas, but exact location will depend on our numbers. (TBA). This class is for people brand new to the instrument and it will cover the basics. Emphasis will be on how to tune, hold, strum and play 4 basic chor...ds, plus how to read other chord diagrams. We have lender ukuleles that you may take home with you. You will learn lots of songs and we will provide instructional materials and a list of excellent websites, so that you can continue learning at home. And if you love the ukulele as much as we think you will, we can arrange for further instruction in February, so that you will be caught up and ready to take part in our 8 week Spring Session Beginner Part Two classes, held at St Joseph’s Villa, starting in March 2020. Payment Details: The cost for the Intro Course will be $50.00. Please bring cash or a cheque made payable to String Along Ukulele to the lesson. It's been a while since we have posted anything! Have you been wanting to learn to play the ukulele or do you know someone who might be interested? Below are the details for our upcoming Introductory Course that will run on three evening, two hours each night and it will for sure get you playing!... Just email us at stringalong@cogeco. ca, if you'd like to join us! :) STRING ALONG UKULELE OF DUNDAS will be offering a 6 hour introductory course on three upcoming Monday evenings in February and March. Each Monday session will be 2 hours in length. The ukulele is riding a huge wave of popularity for many reasons! It’s fun, easy and you do not need any prior musical training in order to learn. Level 1 Beginner: This class is for people brand new to the instrument and it will cover the basics. Emphasis will be on how to hold, how to tune and read a chord diagram, 2 basic strums, 6-8 introductory chords, chord progressions, the C scale, an introduction to TAB and lots of songs. Dates: Monday February 18, 25 and March 4. Time: 6:00 pm 8:00 pm. Where: St Joseph’s Villa Dundas in their auditorium. Follow Highway 99 (Governor’s Road in Dundas). Turn onto Overfield and left into the first driveway. There are doors to the auditorium from the parking lot that is on the right hand side. Cost: $100.00. All music and instructional materials are included. Lender ukuleles are provided that you can take home. Please let us know if you need one. Payment Details: Please bring cash or a cheque made payable to String Along Ukulele to the first lesson. This intro course will get you playing! For those who would like to continue learning, this will be enough for you to feel comfortable to join our 8 week Beginner Part Two Course that will begin March 25 until the end of May. Want to play the ukulele with a fantastic group of people? String Along Ukulele has over 125 members! We have classes starting at the end of September until the end of November. Jams at the Winchester Arms in Dundas are included - so much fun! Beginner 2 and Level 2 are on Monday nights and Level 2/3 and Level 3/4 are on Tuesday nights. 6:00 - 7:00 and 7:15 - 8:15 at St Joseph's Villa auditorium.... Our 4 hour Beginner Intro Course is for people brand new to the ukulele and will be held on August 27 and September 10, for 2 hours each night. We have lender ukes for you to take home. :) You will then be ready to join our September classes. See course outlines below! Beginner Part Two: This class is for people who are able to move smoothly between the basic chords - C, G7, C7, F and D7. It will cover chord drill sequences and many new songs in the key of C, an introduction to the new chords of Am, Dm and G and an introduction to the Bb chord, straight eighth strum, the C scale, simple TAB picking, and 4/4 folk picking. Level Two: This class is for people who can move smoothly between the basic chords taught in Level One Beginner. It will cover songs in the key of C, songs in the new keys of D, G and A, Doo Wop songs, the Bb chord, pinch strum, straight eighth strum with accents and variations, simple TAB picking arrangements and 3/4 and 4/4 folk picking. Level 2 / 3: This class is for people who would appreciate some Level 2 review and are ready to be introduced to Level Three skills. It will cover new songs in various keys, an intro to damping, the thumb strum, pinch strum and finger-thumb strum, new folk picking patterns, tremolo picking, intros and endings, slides and rocking notes, the Blues, the harmonized C scale and more advanced TAB picking arrangements. Level 3 / 4: This class is for those who want to continue to advance and who like to practise. We will continue to review Level 3 skills, plus learn new techniques in order to play more challenging ensemble arrangements that will include intros, endings, riffs, pinch and finger-thumb strum combinations, scales, some barre chords, TAB melodies, other advanced strums, finger-picking, tremolo picking and embellishments.
