Meet Mike Moss and Kemper Milton! Anglers who came out to support Atlantic Anglers Challenge & Striped Bass Research Team during our weekend outreach event in t...he Five Islands area! Mike caught a 78.5cm Striped Bass, but was out-fished by Kemper who reeled in his very own 84.5cm Striped Bass! Super catches! If Mike and Kemper come across this post, feel free to tag yourselves!

On Sunday we conducted on-site Striped bass dissections where local anglers could come see how we deconstruct these fish for a variety of research projects (diet studies, development, contamination, movement, etc.). We set up a couple tables near a boat launch for anglers to use to fillet their keepers. Anglers kept their fillets; we kept leftover carcasses. A big thanks to everyone who participated in our citizen science program by donating their carcasses or simply spreading the word. This weekend was a huge success because of you!

We had an amazing time in Five Islands area this past weekend promoting citizen science through the Striped Bass Research Team and Atlantic Anglers Challenge. One way we did this was by spending some hours shoreline fishing for schoolie stripers. Even though these fish are small we can still sample them for length, some scales and even put a tag in before releasing. We interacted safely with a lot of recreational anglers this weekend who were kind enough to allow us to samp...le their catches! We are so thankful to everyone who participated in citizen science and engaged in some great conversations. Here are some shots of some of our team members!

We would like to give a HUGE thanks to Down By The Bay Camping for an awesome camping experience this past weekend while our team was doing some outreach in the area. If you're looking for a place to stay in Great Village-surrounding Colchester area, this is the place to go! They have a nice mix of RVs and campers, and some spots to pitch a tent, not to mention a great atmosphere with great people!
