Hi everyone hope you are ready for an exciting school year I know it is different but still will be great. My child has changed school so I will no longer be able to act as PAC President. It was sure a good time working with all the parents that came out and volunteered their time we were able to do great things with the monies that we raised. Take care and be safe in these different times. all the best, Christie Laverriere

Please see this important video message update for Surrey Schools parents, students and staff regarding optional in-class instruction for students beginning June 1. "Today the premier and the Minister of Education took to the stage to bring clarity on the path forward for our students," says Supt. Jordan Tinney. "We now have direction for the rest of this school year and the details to look ahead to the fall in September. Today's message is just to reiterate the key messages ...from today and to tell you how Surrey is responding in our preparations. "Most importantly from today's announcement are two key things. First - On June 1st, our schools will be open and your children will have the opportunity to receive additional support for their education by once again being at school. Second this is your choice to come or not to come. There is no penalty and no pressure." The video, as well as full written transcripts of the superintendent's message in English, Punjabi and Chinese are available at https://www.surreyschools.ca/covid19, where you can also find other helpful information and resources. Thank you. Stay well and have a fun, safe long weekend! Surrey Schools 14033 92 Avenue Surrey, B.C. Surrey Traditional Home of the Bulldogs Compassion Club Corner: A place to find updates on how our students, staff, and parents are spreading love and gratitude through our community. ... GOOD NEWS: Parents and students, over the past couple of weeks you've been very diligent in getting your messages of love and compassion to the patients at Surrey Memorial Hospital. She was thrilled with the response and said the staff and patients were overjoyed and loved reading and looking at what the kids created. Please feel free to send more of your best wishes to the patients here: [email protected] We have updated the Compassion Club Sway, have a look! Upcoming Compassion Club Events:Our next letter-writing campaign will be for the frontline staff members in the Fraser Health region. Have you had someone on your mind and thought to yourself, "I should really give them a call." My challenge to you is to, PICK UP THE PHONE! Why phone and not just text? Because according to Lydia Dentworth a scientist and journalist... "hearing the voice of someone you care about can reduce your stress levels" and it "increases your longevity - but more than that, it effects - friendship - your level of social integration, so either how connected you are or how isolated you are, effects cardiovascular functioning, immune system functioning, cognitive health, mental health and even the rate at which your cells age." Call someone today, you'll feel better, stay younger and most importantly you'll bring a smile to the face of someone you love! Surrey Traditional 13875-113 Avenue Surrey, B.C. COVID-19 Update for K-12 Education - May 6 We've done a recap to ensure information is reaching all members. Please read. Today Premier John Horgan, Provincial ...Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix provide an update on BC's COVID-19 strategy. Full details on the Restart Plan are found here: http://gov.bc.ca/covid19 The Go-Forward Management Strategy can be found here: https://bccpac.bc.ca//bc_covid-19_go-forward_management_st The Go-Forward Management Checklist can be found here: (see p9 re K-12) https://bccpac.bc.ca//go_forward_strategy_checklist_web.pdf As part the plan, the province has outlined the Ministry of Education’s five stage approach to supporting students, families and staff. Here is the backgrounder -Scroll down to page 3 to see Education! https://bccpac.bc.ca//BG_Parks_and_Sites_and_In-Class_Lear Key Messages: Phase 3 - June to September IF transmission rates remain low or in decline, under enhanced protocols: -Post-secondary education with mix of online and in-class (September 2020) -K-12 education with only a partial return this school year (September 2020) -Reopening our Schools "As COVID-19 spread, governments everywhere took action to reduce in the classroom learning. For most British Columbians with young children, this meant having to stay at home to look after their kids. While many workplaces have made work-from-home accommodations, that hasn’t been an option for everyone. Our schools and educators rose to the challenge with online instruction and resources to keep our kids learning, but this placed a heavy burden on parents to support their kids as they learned at home. We know there is no substitute for in-class instruction and an important step toward our recovery is getting kids back into the classroom, so parents can get back into the workplace. Initial health data indicates children are less affected than adults by the COVID-19 virus. Public health staff and officials will continue to review the health data. And the Ministry of Education and school divisions all around B.C. are reviewing options to allow for a safe return to school. An announcement on a phased approach to resuming in-class instruction will be made in the coming weeks. This will not be a return to normal. With weeks left in the school year, we anticipate many kids will not return to the classroom until September. But the Ministry is also exploring ways to safely get some kids back to school before the summer, to allow more parents to return to work. How these changes unfold are the focus of intensive discussion among Ministry of Education officials, school trustees, the BC Teachers’ Federation, CUPE, and other education sector partners." - For more information on protective measures that will be required of schools and post-secondary institutions, please refer to https://bccpac.bc.ca//bc_covid-19_go-forward_management_st Stay Tuned.
