STU Moot Court continued its trend of strong performances in regional competition, earning one bid to the National Tournament and two speaker awards at the Eastern Regional last weekend. Megan Cormier and Grace Baker earned a bid to the American Moot Court Association National tournament after advancing to the final round against California State University (Fullerton), and Paytra Waibel and Oliver Larson were both recognized with Speaker Awards. STU Moot Court began its season of regional competition last weekend, hosting 26 teams from 13 universities for the second annual Tommies' Tournament. During the virtual event, STU Mooters Ashley Thornton and Emily Green earned a bid to the American Moot Court Association National Tournament and Julia Evans was named the competition's Top Speaker. STUdents in the Fine Arts Chamber Music class once again had the opportunity to see and hear their compositions performedthis year, virtuallyby one of Canada’s leading chamber music ensembles: the Saint John String Quartet. I found it useful to have other musicians explore some nuances I hadn’t considered, said fourth-year STUdent John Knox. The feedback given through the interpretation and performance of the Saint John String Quartet was valuableboth as a student trying to put my best work forward and learn from professionals in the industry, and as a composer always looking for new ideas and inspiration. STU Moot Court rounded out its season of regional competition with four speaker awards and two round of 16 finishes at the South Atlantic Moot Court Regional. STU duos Mark Edgar and Laura Rea and Matt Oram and Alaina Mejia each advanced to the second day of competition and were all recognized as top orators at the event. Participating STUdents spent the day working with the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, Nature New Brunswick, The Ville Cooperative, Sexual Violence New Brunswick, L’Arche Fredericton, the NB Community Harvest Gardens, York Care Centre, and Greener Village. Danyelle Dupuis, a fourth-year STUdent from Notre-Dame, NB, has volunte...ered with STU Cares the last four years. She said the opportunity to get involved has allowed her to learn from others and give back to the community. Volunteering with STU Cares allowed me to develop my skills as a leader.
