Studio 52: Breaking Free I can't express how freeing it is to not have a schedule or a set plan for this project! Granted, my two previous projects and their s...trict guidelines made for a lot of productivity, but they didn't leave time for exploration. May I present my own personal keychain, made from Honey's tail hair. This one took a long time to complete because the search for a perfect charm to set it off was a long one. But when I saw this one, it was perfect: the mother-of-pearl feather charm had a touch of sky blue in it, which is Honey's eye colour! If you remember in my first horsehair project post, I was talking about how hard it is to find hair long enough for bracelets. This keychain used much shorter hair so it was easier to find the proper length. I'm in the process of making one of these with black hair and can't wait to see how it goes with it's feather charm - stay tuned! It will be displayed at Advanced Connection Equestrian's tack shop along with several other horsehair pieces. Some are simple, some are more complex, and all are as unique as the horsehair that is used in them. Thanks for following along!

Cindy Zampa, of Studio 52, and local artist Veronica Funk were interviewed for this article in the Airdrie City View newspaper. (Thursday April 23, 2020). Much gratitude to the paper, and journalist Ben Sherick, for considering the impacts the pandemic is having on artists!

Artist and Active Studio52 Member Melissa Bruglemans found a few dozen BEHR Paint-chip samples downstairs in her studio. One was called Blue Suede. So she painted Elvis in his blue suede shoes.

STUDIO 52....Different Strokes # 1 Watercolour 10 1/2 X 8 1/2 Watercolour is not a new medium for me , nor is the method I used to apply the paint for this pai...nting but both are ones I haven’t used for quite a few years ,so decided to use it this way for my first post for Studio 52’s Renascent 2021, I first soaked my Watercolour paper in tepid water for 8 minutes to remove some of the sizing , and to stretch it. Stapled it onto a wooden stretcher board so that as it dried it would stay stretched. When completely dried , transferred the drawing of the rocks on to it , and covered the leaf and stem with frisket to preserve the white paper . After deciding on the colours I would use, I squeezed each colour into small pans and diluted them with a bit of water’ Then with a large brush I wet the paper , let it soak in , then dribbled each colour where i wanted it , then moved and tilted the board around so all the colours could blend a bit . While still wet . sprinkled a bit of salt on right lower corner to hopefully give the look of sand , also dropped a few small drops of rubbing alcohol on some of the rocks fo texture, When dry , removed the frisket and painted the leaf and added a small sprinkle of salt on it , left it a couple of days , then used coloured pencils to add a bit of definition around the rocks to make them stand out

This amazingly detailed firedclay Birkenstock was created by our lovely Studio52 follower and local potter/artist Kelly Proulx. Can’t wait to slip into a pair of these when summer finally comes. The only thing missing from this clay Birkenstock is the foot print outline inside the soul of the shoe. It looks too clean LOL.

Day 4/52 Cabin Fever Series Gnome is Where the Heart is... Associated with Studio52: 52 Days of Social Distancing. Medium: Pen and Paper 1st Draft: 2.5x3.5 inches 2nd Draft: 28x21 inches 1st Draft is the original creation of the Building/Cabin while the 2nd Draft is the Recreation and final draft of the Building/Cabin. The 2nd Draft will be all 52 Days of the Cabin Fever Series. I’m hoping that it will in the end create one coherent scene and perhaps a unified story . (Although, I am not the best story teller and think maybe I’m gonna need some help.) What do you think should be the next line? Also, Be sure to Like, Share, Comment and Subscribe. Here is a absolutely stunning entry for the Studio 52 Weekly Challenge. The Prompt for this week is SHOE Sent to us by Mrs Debbie A. Beam... This stunning white floral shoe is made this out of fondant and rice crispy treats. (except for the studs running down the back of the heel). This shoe although completely edible is way to sweet to eat.
