Happy July 1st Everyone. I'm happy to say my jewelry is now available at Cranston Gallery in Lunenburg, NS. The pieces shown below were delivered to the gallery yesterday. I'm excited about the amazing enamel colours....don't you love the Nova Scotia sunset jingler pendant, and it's reversible.
You say Lupine, I say Lupin. But now I know its Lupinus, known as lupin or lupine, is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family Fabaceae. I remember them from my Mums garden in England, they bloomed every year various shades of pink, purple, yellow, white, and blue. Their spikey flowers reaching for the sky and the rich green leaves. #Lupins #NovaScotia
Looking forward to seeing you this weekend. Do stop in to visit all three studios.
Silence all around, well other than four lobster boats purring in the background and sun streaming through the windows, what better place to write. Its mid-June and summer has arrived here in northern Nova Scotia. The trees are in full foliage providing shade and evidence of a slight breeze. David, Spike and I are in Georgeville, Antigonish County visiting our friends Ken and Shane.
I think about the past more often now I am in my senior years. Not because Im longing for my youth, but because its fun to remember. My childhood was enjoyable and in the early 1950s people were celebrating the end of World War II and rationing. Servicemen were home on leave, families were re-united, and the baby boom produced many potential playmates. Happy times. I was born in Mansfield a m
Come and visit this summer, NS is a beautiful province and the Acadian Coast is just lovely.

I Love Rhubarb Don't You?What a Week! The days of going out more than staying in are past. Its a choice. We enjoy our home here in Salmon River, Nova Scotia and the evenings are usually spent, reading, chatting, or watching something benign on Netflix. I know, its not the life of social butterflies thats for sure. But every now and again we break out! Last week was one of those times. Thursday
Happy May Everyone. We had a great kiln opening day today. Take a look at David's new pottery. Studio 5390 will be open for the season starting May 11. Look for the OPEN flag at the end of the driveway at 5390 Highway 1, Salmon River. We look forward to seeing you.
Getting ready for the summer season. It's time to take jewelry and pottery to the Yarmouth Waterfront Gallery ready for the May 1 opening.
NEW WORK. Thought I would share "Jingler with Pearl" with you. Jinglers are something new, they made from copper, brass, and silver...and each piece has a group of unique hand forged parts that produce a very quiet soothing jingle as you move. This one has gone to a lovely home in Mavillette, NS. I'll be posting other Jinglers for you to see at http://www.studio5390.com/2019-jewelry/
Memoirs Yesterday I went to Tusket, NS, a small fishing community not very far from where I live in Salmon River. I wasnt planning to fish, well not the type of fishing you might have in mind. I was fishing for shared ideas, conversation, thoughts and those good things that might help me to write a good story. Along with nine fellow storytellers I participated in a lively, fun, informative, h
Its a snowy day today here in Salmon River. The wind is howling, the snow is blowing and were tucked up warm and cozy in our little house. Our good friends Ken and Shane are visiting, but theres no push to be entertaining.we co-exist in comfortable silence. Shanes reading, Kens doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, and David is off somewhere getting ready for the rest of the day.
Christmas memories of happy years gone by They come back to me and keep me warm inside Oh they mean so much to me Those Christmas memories make me cryThese words from Alabamas 1985 Christmas song say it so well.
Weve been here for just over a year now and thought it was about time we had our Wills and Powers of Attorney checked for compliance with Nova Scotia laws, so this morning we headed off to see Hugh Robichaud, Barrister and Solicitor in beautiful downtown Meteghan.
Two tired peeps and one tired pooch arrived home late on Thursday night well actually it was early Friday morning after ten great days visiting friends and family in Ontario. Getting together with people we havent seen for a little while over a glass of wine, picking up just where we left off. Really thats what life with friends and family is all about.
The beautiful tree behind our house is bare. The family of Cedar Waxwings that lived amongst the lovely thick green leaves have found better accommodation. But, I have a solution to the lack of flowers -- leaves might follow -- these lovely ceramic beauties are growing out of a wonderful piece of driftwood.
I'm diligently trying to get rid of the giant logo that appears when I publish a blog....it's so rude and in your face.....I'll figure it out pretty soon.
Although we gave her a name and although we gave her new upholstery and had her mechanical parts checked out we changed our minds about taking a giant road trip in a motor home. We did a pile of trip planning and had Connie checked out from top to bottom, but we decided that the whole thing just wasn't a very good fit for us.
Why do we name our vehicles? Connie the motor home triggered this question. Don't miss the deadline, October 2nd is Name Your Car Day.
As many of you know I "killed" our website by accident. I have now built a new website, but this time it is more of a blog. It will showcase some of the work we're doing, but it's not a selling site. It's a way for us to keep in touch with our good friends and family. I hope you enjoy reading about our adventures (and misadventures) and look forward to your comments. I'll post an alert on this Facebook page as well as on my personal FB page when I publish something new.
Hi everybody....hope you are still enjoying the lovely summer weather. Both of us are fully recharged and ready to go....back to the studio this week. Loads of ideas, lots of new projects to start. Watch this space. Just to let you know I accidentally deleted all of the content from our website, but I'm busy this weekend rebuilding it...watch this space for more news and views from Nova Scotia.
I love summer! I love the energy I get from the sun, the bright blue sky, the warmth, and most of all I love the freedom summer brings. No boots, no heavy coats, no hats going outside isnt a chore, doesnt require a big decision. just open the door and out you go. No need to worry about where you put your mitts, glasses fogging up, ears getting cold.
When you haven't been working in the studio for a while it's a good thing to begin with a little fun. The first pic shows the work in progress -- garden bells and mug bodies David made this week. The second pic shows the "dongers" as he calls them, they are the things that are inside the bell to make it chime...
Spike's two cents' worth, overheard at an ice cream vendor in Lakeland, FL this winter. "Why do you continue to create chaos? What's wrong with calm? Why don't you take some time to go some place quiet, maybe the beach, a park, the mountains? Can I come with you? Leave your cell phone behind (or turn it off) and let's just talk to each other.
Happy to let you know that David's pottery and Jan's jewelry will be available at Yarmouth Waterfront Gallery this year. Here's a quick peek at a couple of things you will find there.
No matter how chaotic it is, wildflowers will still spring up in the middle of nowhere. - Sheryl Crow The promise of spring......in the dark days of winter, even for those of you who love the cold weather, the thought of green fields, flowers, warmth is surely a wonderful thing.
Big thanks to many people in our new community in Nova Scotia. We'll be back before the middle of April and look forward to opening the studio. See you soon......check out the Studio 5390 blog "News and Other Good Stuff" here https://www.studio5390.com/4334-2/
