Studio Cardinal 24.11.2020

It's been a while. I've gotten many messages in the last few days as though you are all part of some collective subconscious! I'm sorry about that guys. Life has been uniquely challenging for all of us this year, and for those of you who follow the page or know me a little more personally, you know that I’ve had a particular string of events alter my reopening plans. My partner had a serious accident this summer that set us back a little and pushed my reopening a little furth...er than anticipated and then we had a few more challenges pop up. However, I have begun to MOVE FORWARD with reopening. WHEN? No official dates yet because I still need to book my inspections and order my supplies as soon as the space is ready. I am projecting to be open before the new year, because... well... I really want to give 2020 at least one good kick to the face! WHERE? My new space is located in New Sudbury. It is a fully private studio. By-appointment only. Once inspections are done, I will be open for business! __________________________________________ On a more personal level... guys... it really hasn't been a slice here. I know that everyone has been dealt their own special hand this year and we all have struggles. My boyfriend was in a serious accident at the end of summer which resulted in 30-something fractures and he couldn't walk for a good long time (his arm is STILL broken in the Xrays and no he is not fully healed yet but he's doing great with his recovery), and most recently my dog Sputnik fell off our side by side and injured herself something fierce (we have a bit of a road to recovery but she's doing amazing and I trust she will be back to normal sooner than later). That's the short "in-a-nutshell" paraphrasing of what I've been dealing with. I honestly prefer to lick my wounds in private, away from prying eyes and thoughtful opinions on how I should move forward. I wasn't going to post anything until I reopen... however, I don't want anyone worrying too much about me. I can't even stress enough that I WOULD RATHER BE WORKING. My identity has been so intertwined with my business for the last few years that without my studio, I have been feeling absolutely lost. Thank you to those who have granted me my privacy as I soldier on. I've always been reliable... and this is the first time in my life where I find myself not working. I can't stress how much I want to be sitting with you all right now. I promise I'll be back soon. I really can't wait. __________________________________________ The gold hardware fits into the collage because... well... I repainted these for my shop! A little gold paint makes us forget their failings... friends... can we spray some gold paint on 2020?

Shop update: To whoever put a curse on me: just remember it comes back x3... Last Friday my partner had a serious accident on his dirt bike. He fractured his pelvis, hip, some ribs, upper arm and blew his joint in his shoulder. I really don’t want to repeat the story, as you can imagine I’ve been asked 100x - although I so appreciate that so many people care enough to ask. Surgery was done last night! Now... My priority is to help him get settled once he is allowed to com...e home. We have a long road to recovery - which may delay our shop plans a little as he was my main help to get this done. We are still moving ahead... it will just take a little longer as we regroup, reorganize, and move forward. I ask for a little patience and empathy as we navigate these new waters. If you can’t tell... I’m very tired. I’ll be logging off often to take care of him and also myself. I’ll be back soon enough guys... currently the universe just has other plans for us. Thank you all for your words of encouragement, support, and all the advice. We are beyond grateful to you all. To my awesome nurse friends who are taking care of Serge, we are grateful for all you do. We were grateful before too. Thank you. See more

I've been getting a lot of messages as to when I will be reopening. Plans are underway and the new space should be ready by fall. I can't thank you guys enough for your patience and respect during this time.

Well... what can I say? This wasn’t planned. Studio Cardinal operated as a true collective, and for that reason, it has put us at a disadvantage financially. We cost share! The owner here doesn’t bank in large profits from the other artists as all costs are split. The government simply is not doing enough at the sole proprietor level to keep our operating costs paid while we are forced into stand by with no income possible to sustain those costs at this time. What does ...this mean? Studio Cardinal no longer exists as a collective but will reopen by going back to its roots - as Rose’s private studio at a new location. We all go our own way. However, we will all still be tattooing once this is over - sadly separately. It’s unfortunate this has to happen. However, we are all grateful for the time we got to work together. I am unsure as to where the guys will be moving forward, however, you can speak with them anytime via Facebook. Joel Marin can be added fo Facebook for inquiries and Jason Matchim can be reached at Tattoos by Jason Matchim. As of right now, for me (Rose) the plan is to reopen in the fall - once the dust settles. A commercial lease is a tricky thing, and with this level of uncertainty comes great financial risk. Once it is clear that we can resume operations, I will be back. I will continue to see clients as Studio Cardinal as it always was for me. All deposits and gift cards will be honoured once I reopen. I will also call all of my clients from March 19th onward to rebook at the new location. I just want to say... I REALLY miss you guys. I miss our talks. I miss your visits. Your crazy ideas. I can’t wait to see you guys again. Although I am sad to see this chapter of Studio Cardinal end, I am grateful for the time I had working alongside Joel and Jason. I wish them well and am optimistic to see better days ahead. I look forward to tattooing again soon and brining your ideas to life. See you soon. As for a new location - if any of you are aware of a cute little place for lease let me know! I’m already actively searching.

Hey guys! Take a second to sign this. Your favourite shops need help. So many I have talked to already are facing the idea of losing everything due to their lease obligations. Most of us only qualify for CERB which will be taxed on your 2020 taxes and is only $2k a month. Even with differing a mortgage and car loans... most of us are feeling the pinch of living on a basic income. Imagine if you ALSO had a lease for a business with a landlord who refuses to negotiate, even during a pandemic? Sign this... let’s make sure Sudbury doesn’t look too different when this is all done. Let’s make sure many of our favourite little shops don’t have to close permanently because of this. Justin Trudeau Paul Lefebvre what does your government plan to do for us? You forgot we existed.
