Colour inspiration lives everywhere. Fashion, art, nature, food, interiors, ceramics - these are all sources I routinely turn to, looking for just that shade or tone that captures my eye and sets my heart aflutter. But it doesn’t stop there, the colour of a stranger's backpack, the colour of the trim of the box my speaker came in, that ad I biked by.... the possibilities for inspiration are endless. Colour speaks to us on a subconscious level. Green never actually says to us... ‘be calm!’ and yet, we are left with a palpable feeling of serenity and calm when surrounded by (the right) green. Colour is a powerful tool for creating precisely the kind of atmosphere and experience you want in your home. I’ve been playing in the oranges today, imagining my balcony as an outdoor oasis reminiscent of bright citrus fruit and surrounded by greenery and softened with pinks. So here is my super pro tip of the day. Start capturing and collecting what catches your eye! Screenshot that! Save this! Chase that person around the corner to take a picture of that particular shade of eggplant paired with that terracotta (based on a true story ). I’m planning on decorating my balcony and turning this into an oasis in the middle of downtown Toronto. Who will be tuning in for those adventures??! It’s the only space in my home I have consistently overlooked and treated as my flow over room. Is there something I don’t know what to do with? ... ......I know! Dump it there. Is there something I plan on doing something with at some later never specified date? .....I know! Dump it there. Is there something I am in the middle of working on but have lost interest in or have run into a bump in the road? .....I know! Dump it there. Now, in the year of our lord 2020, a private outdoor space is worth its weight in gold and my balcony being full of stuff that, let’s be real, is very garbage adjacent, is an act on insanity on my part. The weekend vibe at Studio Osazé looks like this. How are you winding down? This is also a reminder that anything can be decor. Anything can be art. The paper lanterns were leftover from an NYE party. Instead of throwing them out, I flattened them and turned them into these joyful bursts of colour that gave the wallpaper a perfect dose of zestiness. They are long gone and have recently been replaced with new #stroytellingobjects but while they graced the space, they made me... smile with their exuberance and reminded me of a party I didn't want to forget.
