Well it's been a while since I've had the time to sit down and write a post. I am just in the finishing stages of an acreage build. It's for sure one of the most important stages where your attention to details and organization needs to be at the top of its game. Things can happen so quick and before you know it the communication ball was dropped and an item is being installed that is incorrect. So needless to say you must really stay engaged and involved in this period of ti...Continue reading

After the chaos and disorder that Christmas can sometimes bring, I'm feeling like I need some organization and order in my life. The reason I feel drawn to these pictures is because they display the perfect amount simplicity and order. Christmas is giving and receiving, sometimes we recieve just a little too much and don't let go of the excess in our lives. This inevitably leads to an abundance of "stuff" and clutter. Instead of just pushing things back deeper and higher into... the designated storage areas in your home, PURGE!! Discover the items that you are not using or will not utilize then donate or gift to someone in need. You will feel like a million bucks and realize that physical clutter is very much related to mental clutter. You will feel lighter, brighter and be able to organize your thoughts efficiently as well you will have helped someone in need! Everyone wins and being able to find things without approaching a mountain of items will make you smile, I gaurantee! With the huge movement of simple is better and less is more, there are many of ideas on how to downsize and live within your means. It's very much an European way. They typically live in smaller spaces and use their feet or public transport to get around which eliminates an over abundance of objects. I believe that if we adopt pieces of this lifestyle we would all be much happier and fulfilled! So look into your storage areas and evaluate what you really need! Really explore and see if the items you store have value to add to your life or if they would be better off in someone else's home. Then find a way to create order so what you need to have will remain simple. It should be easily seen and found for use! There are many unique ways to store things in art like forms. Take a look at these favorites of mine and see what ideas you could use! ~Stunning Homes Decor & Design

Running out of room for all your new Stunning Christmas Decor you just purchased? Do you ever notice at Festive Holidays we lose a significant amount of shelf and table space? Well here are a few of my favourite ideas for using bare wall space to showcase some amazing decor this holiday season. Hanging a few of your favourite decorations from a beautiful string of ribbon over a window is a great way to show off pieces without using coveted counter, shelf or table space. Hang...ing Christmas cards is also a fabulous idea and there so many unique fun ways do so. Adding twinkle lights or a picture frame gives the scene some structure which always helps to show purpose and that you didn't just slap something up there without thinking it through. There lots of festively fun ways to decorate at Christmas so spread some Christmas cheer by rolling up those sleeves and get creative! Happy Holidays! ~Stunning Homes Decor & Design

Two things are for certain living in Saskatchewan. Snow and Mosquitoes. I can't for the life of me figure out how to enjoy mosquitoes but snow, well it's so pretty and nostalgic so what's not to enjoy?....well maybe because it means it's cold for the next 8 months :( Mixing with other elements snow becomes all different shades, just like paint. There are so many unique shades of every colour of paint. Undertones are key to making sure you achieve the perfect pallet you are d...esiring. So what is an undertone? Let's say you have a paint chip called parchment paper. You can take a look and expect it to be white, take a closer look and see it has greyish green in it too. When you're thinking about painting your home it doesn't matter if you're in different rooms you need to make sure your paint swatches all work together. This helps to establish a gentle flow throughout the home. Keeping a careful eye on the undertone of your selections is crucial to appropriately match colours in certain areas. You want each color to compliment the next. Note* Just because two colours you choose are on the same swatch they may not have complimenting undertones! I've seen it quite a few times in all different brands of paint. When you're choosing your paint colours, look at them in all times of day to see when they throw different undertones in changing light. You will find your choice won't surprise you once you've seen it in all kinds of lighting. Bringing home a sample and painting it on the wall is a great idea so you can see how your decor, furniture and existing paint works with it. Painting is a great way to change the ambiance of a room and one of the cheapest. You can transform a whole space in a day with switching your colours up. So visit your local paint shop and have fun. It's like picking out ice cream! Who doesn't like drooling over the rainbow of flavours? Call me and I'll do it for you if you're lactose intolerant!! 306.221.5116 There are a million different shades of white, even when it comes to snow.....make sure you don't eat the yellows ;) Happy Painting!

Adding pops of colour is what makes or breaks the ambiance of a room. Something too neutral and safe is boring. My rule of thumb is to start with a smooth pallet and fill it in with pieces that make you smile! Love this sitting room, I think the colours all compliment the main pallet and with a little mix of yellow, blue and grey the outcome is beautiful! ~Stunning Homes Decor & Design

When you pull up to my house for the first time I want you to think, "oooooh I hope this is the one!" Not because you've been driving around the block and your glad you finally found it, but because it has such great curb appeal and looks so inviting you want to come in! The first statement your home makes is from the exterior. We've all heard this on HGTV or from our realtor, but it's the truth. It doesn't matter if you have an older home with out of date siding, it's all a...Continue reading

Good Night Sally! Have you ever had one of those days where you literally dream about your bed? The second you walk into your bedroom you collapse and gasp a sigh of relief! Of course you have, you'd be lying if you said otherwise. Humans need lots of sleep and good quality sleep for that matter. Trust me on this one, as a mom of three, two of which are 20 month old twins QUALITY is key. When you think of your bedroom and the aura that it offers, hopefully one adjective descr...Continue reading

Are you coming or going? Some days if my head isn't attached to my neck I swear I would lose it! Nowadays the hustle and bustle of life is really screaming for functionality. We need to have order to feel some sense of control over our complicated and busy lives. I feel a great place to start in the home is our enterance and exit. When you come into your home you should feel immediately relieved and know you have the perfect place to put everything in your hands! When you are... placing anything that you typically leave with on a regular basis it should be in an appropriate spot for less stress and easy access (keys, backpack, briefcase, purse, grocery bags). You can see this has been given way more thought in new builds these days. We are seeing a lot more lockers and designated functional boot/mud rooms. This is awesome in my opinion! Farm life and acerage living homes almost always included this space traditionally. It was a necessity when you literally come in with mucky boots and dirty hands almost all the time! It shouldn't be limited to those styles of homes though, any home should consider this an essential space. I really do believe it helps to eliminate unnecessary stress when you have a station to stop and start before you come or go. These are my favourite options for functionality when it comes to boot/mud room or even just entry way space. I feel they give all different types of options in regards to how much of your busy lives you want to reveal. Some are closed completely to hide bulk and some are quite open. Others offer a place to sit and take boots off and some a surface to write memos of "not to forgets." Baskets, drawers and cupboards all help to give some functional storage of regularly used items. Take a look and see how you can rethink your come and go station :)

Ahhh Let it snow, Let it snow, it's inevitable right? Living in Saskatchewan this fall we have been pretty lucky with this weather I'd say. Well I for one LOVE the way the first snow fall makes me feel. I get this intrinsic feeling of coziness which I'm sure is just a natural reaction to warming up when you know it's cold enough for snow to stick. Not only that, it's a new season and so out comes your winter wardrobe, fun hot beverages and number one, the Christmas season on... our doorstep! Decorations that haven't been seen in just under a year! How fun!! One thing I love about the snow is how much light it gives! When the sun shines bright and it's brilliant beams dance off the snow and shoot right into your windows, there is nothing like it! I'm a huge fan of rooms with floods of natural light! Something about the sun rays streaming in while knitting or sipping a coffee just gets me. Winter is perfect for finding that beam of sunlight and lounging in its bath like a house cat! Window placement is key for this. The directions and types of windows you put in are very important to consider when building or renovating. So many variables to consider. Which direction does your lot face? Where will the majority of your larger windows be facing? Will you have window treatments in your budget? Do you want heat coming in through the winter or keeping heat out in the summer? There are lots of things to consider to maximize window efficency, views, and light! I believe it can make or break how fabulous your space can end up being! The picture above was an example I chose to illustrate how much light that a window brings to what would usually be an artificially lite hallway. Most hallways are dark and narrow. This window placement helps to brighten and widen the space. It now appears inviting and spacious and that is what really attracts me to this example! This window is very large but even if it was scaled down, it would still let through a decent amount of light! If your floor plan can accommodate a window in a hallway I would say it would be a great consideration if done appropriately!

Where's your family hub in the home? So many family's have a special place in their home where they gather. When company comes or friends of kids, this area is usually the spot where everyone chills and interacts. In most homes, it's a combo of the kitchen/dinning room, because let's all face it, what is true socializing without a little grub? So how can we make this space just that much better? How can we make it more inviting, super comfortable and add some stunning decor? ...I'm of the opinion that your space is dependant on whose in it the majority of the time. This room has a common emotional trend in it. Yes, I know that sounds weird and new age like but it's true. Let's take the example of the retired couple. Judging from how socially active they are, this can go a few different ways. Their oasis may just be something involving a serene clean feel and a cozy area for curling up with a wonderful book. Good lighting, soft textiles, and inviting seating are all key to creating a great nook for a book :) Tell me that this picture doesn't scream, "poor me a glass of wine and where's my new book from McNally's?" So depending on what kind of retired folk we are talking about the spaces can vary, but you see my point. Each social hub has an emotion. This room speaks relaxation through the soft textiles and clean lines which are conducive to learning! The chairs are comfortable enough that if the book is lacking in interest a snooze could be in order without a crooked neck. To me it's important to determine in each home where the most time is spent as a family or couple and make that the focus for executing exactly what needs to be created to make it simply perfect!
