Success Skills Centre Adopts Social Enterprise* An Open Letter to Our Employers, Clients, Partners, Sponsors and Friends, from the Board Chair and CEO... It is a time for change for all of us, and Success Skills Centre is announcing that it is changing its not-for-profit operations to a social enterprise. We are taking this step because governments have less funding available to immigrant settlement services in Manitoba. Our board of directors and staff see this as an exciting opportunity for profit and not-for-profit organizations to work together in a different way to address social issues. The Centre will continue to work with its various stakeholders, and in the new model strive to cover its operational expenses and to develop new markets. Since 1985, our Centre’s dedicated and experienced staff has developed and delivered niche programs and services focusing on the following twin goals: Supporting Manitoba employers in filling their skill shortages, needs and gaps That lead to loss of productivity and development for their organizations; and, Resolving the employment and underemployment challenges of skilled immigrants through the Centre’s niche, hands-on approach in preparing newcomers for the Canadian workplace culture, expectations and credentials. The Centre’s service model is designed to save immigrants precious time, money and grief, and to help accelerate their process into the workforce in a timely manner. Doing so is critical, based on our long experience and is demonstrated in much research. Not utilizing immigrants’ skills sets is a tremendous loss of human resources and to the economy. Over the next while, our board and staff will be reaching out to our various stakeholders to share how they may be able to support our new direction. Please watch our website for further news. Monika G. Feist Chief Executive Officer Roma Thorlakson Board Chair April 2020 *What is Social Enterprise: Social enterprises are non-profit organizations that use revenue generation to realize social, cultural and environmental outcomes, such as fostering a more sustainable environment, providing important community services like child care, generating revenue for non-profits or creating job and training opportunities for people facing barriers to employment. The purpose of social enterprise is to create positive impact in our communities.
