A new study by the University of Michigan suggests that hearing aids can prevent more hospital trips for older adults. The study was published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. The data the researchers used was from 2013-2014 and showed that 1,336 adults ages 65 to 85 reported having a severe hearing loss. Of those 1,336 only 45 percent wear a hearing aid. As the data was studied more in depth, researchers found that the adults wearing a hearing aid were two pe...rcent less likely to have gone to the hospital or emergency room last year. The hospital stays for adults using a hearing aid were shorter than the adults that do not use a hearing aid. It averaged a day shorter for the hearing aid users.
