Today is International Credit Union Day! To celebrate the spirit of the credit union movement we’re giving a total of $15,000 to 8 local organizations today! These 8 organizations were surprised with the news that they would be receiving a donation in honour of International Credit Union Day to support the amazing work that they do within our community. International Credit Union Day is coming up on Thursday, October 15th! The day celebrates the credit union movement’s history, promotes its achievements and raises awareness about the work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world. ~International Credit Union Day~ Did you know that in 1992 Sudbury Credit Union provided an interest free loan of $400,000 to the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre to support research and treatment? At the time, Dr. Anthony Ho was conducting research on stem cell transplantation and a lack of funding was threatening the program. The interest free loan helped to ensure that the research and treatment program could continue. SCU has a proud history of supporting the Sudbury community in so many ways! #icuday

This Friday, one of our long time staff members will be retiring! Marlene Teskey has been a part of the Credit Union family for 30 years. She will be greatly missed by staff and members but we wish her much happiness during this next chapter! Here’s a message from Marlene: I have met so many wonderful members over all these years and I will miss all of them. I have also worked with so many of our employees and have made really great friends. Now that I’ll be retired, I’m hoping to make it to Calgary this fall to visit family but I’m looking forward to waking up in the morning and doing whatever I feel like doing! And I’m happy to not have to drive in the winter if I don’t want to! Stop by the Second Avenue branch this week to wish Marlene well!

Our staff are wearing pink today in support of Stand Up Against Bullying Day. The day began in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two secondary school students arranged for dozens of their classmates to wear pink shirts in support of another student who had been bullied for wearing pink. The second Thursday at the start of every school year since has been declared Stand Up Against Bullying Day. #wearpink

Erin Martin first joined SCU in 2006 as a Member Service Representative. In 2008 she began working in our Business Banking department as a Commercial Administrative Assistant, then, after gaining further knowledge of financial services through experience and continued education, Erin took on the role of Financial Advisor in 2013. We are happy to announce that she will now be the Branch Manager at our South End branch! Erin has been building strong relationships with our membe...rs over the years and strives to provide them with sound financial advice and exceptional service. She continues to expand her knowledge and expertise and is currently pursuing the Personal Financial Planner designation through the Canadian Securities Institute. Erin values the opportunity to meet and work alongside our members to help them meet their financial goals. Please join us in congratulating Erin on her new role!

David Blackburn came to SCU in 2014 as a Financial Advisor at our New Sudbury branch. He became a Branch Manager in 2018, spending some time at our Downtown and Levack branches before heading to the South End branch. We are happy to announce that David will now be returning to the New Sudbury branch as Branch Manager. With more than 25 years of experience in financial services, David brings much knowledge and experience to our team. He is a certified Personal Financial Planne...r through the Canadian Securities Institute and is currently pursuing a certification in Banking Management. His ability to connect with members to gain a better understanding of their needs and goals is key in helping them create solutions to succeed financially. David’s commitment to community extends beyond his passion for helping members. For many years he has been actively involved in community minor sports, including coaching and officiating for local hockey, soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He is truly Community Minded and we know that he will continue to care for our members’ financial health at our New Sudbury branch. Congratulations David!
