On behalf of the board, we would like to thank our outgoing President, Charles Fink, for his leadership and contribution to Sudbury Minor Baseball. Charles was a steady hand and a level head, especially during this past year when everything was flipped upside down thanks to covid. Although he won't be running the show anymore, we are happy that he is staying on to help. With that said, we are pleased to introduce Craig Thompson as our new President. Craig has been an active member of the board for many years and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. We are all looking forward to getting back on the field in 2021!

Good News Everyone! Baseball Ontario and the City of Greater Sudbury have allowed us to return to the baseball diamond. Granted, Covid-19 restrictions are in place and we will be following strict protocols but it is, nonetheless, great news for all us baseball enthusiasts. Since current restrictions prevent us from playing games or hosting scrimmages, SMBA will hold a series of "Drills and Skills" sessions at Terry Fox Diamond #1 (the only diamond open at this time) in groups... of 8 players. In order to plan our sessions, SMBA invites you to complete the following short survey. The survey is anonymous and does not commit you to anything but will help guide our decision making processes in the weeks to follow. The survey expires on Friday, July 10 at 4:00 pm. Thank you for your cooperation. More information will follow as we approach our first session - we will also make adjustments as the Covid-19 situation continues to evolve. SMBA

Message from the President Baseball Ontario has announced that there will be no play prior to May 31. While this is disappointing, it does suggest that there is still hope for some baseball this summer. As of now, we are sill in a holding pattern. SMBA will keep you posted on all further developments. Thanks for your support.

While SMBA is concerned with the developments of Covid-19, we remain committed to our baseball season. We will follow direction and policy dictated to us by the City of Greater Sudbury, the Health Unit, and Baseball Ontario. Since we are still over 2 months away from first pitch we are adopting a position of "wait and see". Should the season be suspended, refunds will be issued without question. As of now, it's business as usual but our primary concern is the safety of our players and their families. This is a rather dynamic situation. We will provide any relevant updates as the situation progresses.

Over the past weekend the Major Mosquito Shamrocks were in Vaughan for their annual SOBA baseball tournament. This was the first tournament for the team this year, it was a very successful one, the team was 3-0 after the round robin play out scoring their opponents 63-1 and finishing 1st overall. In the semi final game vs Annette Red, our pitching was on display again along with the offence, with a 12-0 win, which moved them on to the finals vs Annette Black, with a hard fought 9-4 win the Shamrocks took the title North, good job team.
Congratulations to the PeeWee Shamrocks who won the Gary Marciniak Memorial Tournament in Waterloo last weekend. The team started off with a disappointing walk- off loss to the Cambridge Cubs on Friday night, but bounced back Saturday with 2 convincing wins over the Brantford Red Sox (11-5) and the host Waterloo Tigers (22-7). The Shamrocks entered Sunday as the number 3 seed and defeated the Ancaster Diamondbacks (4-1) in nail-biting 6th inning comeback. They then faced the power hitting Welland Mustangs in the finals and handily took the championship 13-6. What a great weekend and complete team effort win. Go Shamrocks.
