We wear orange shirts today to remember the terrible effects of the residential schools, effects that will be felt for generations to come . Its not so long ago the last residential school closed in 1996. My children were young but when I think about the horror that happened in our lifetime in my children's lifetime I am saddened and heart broken we need to do better we need to be aware and not let anything like this happen again . Canada is an amazing country I am grateful to be Canadian but we need to do better and end racism of any type.

A message about Peterborough Pride from our Executive Director: This time last year, our Centre staff and volunteers would be joyously sharing pictures of the ...awesome spectrum of Pride events and parade that colour up the City of Peterborough each September. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the vision of celebrations this year, we are grateful to the Peterborough Pride committee and many local 2SLGBTQ+ leaders for spreading the message of inclusion and love throughout our community in more digital forms. This year has kept most of us indoors more often, and for survivors of sexual and gender based violence, indoors can be a trap where harm is prevalent, from sexual abuse to ignoring pronouns, in controlling relationships and homophobic and transphobic households. For those who are hurting, we stand with you during Peterborough Pride and all year round. For those who want to help, here are some ways to be an upstander, a friend, an ally: 1) Check in with the person who you saw harmed. Let them know you’re there to witness and support them. They may not want to report the harm, but knowing someone ‘sees them’ can be validating. 2) Intervene if it’s safe to do so. It’s not about being a one person hero, but being a small group that steps in between and creates a moment for the survivor to leave the situation. 3) Create a distraction. By spilling a drink, dropping books, tripping, you can create a moment for the survivor to get away to a safer place. 4) Tell someone with authority ... don’t tell on, but get help with the survivors’ consent if possible. This could be a teacher, a residence advisor, or a safe adult. Silence recreates the violence. What are your strategies for being an upstander for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Black people and people of colour, Indigenous people, people living with disabilities, and people coping with trauma? If you need to support, text with us 24/7 at 705-710-5234. Our community is a circle of diverse voices and unique hearts, join us in spreading Pride, inclusion and welcoming.

PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome)--An incurable hormonal disorder that causes enlarged ovaries and cysts around them. It is the leading cause of infertility an...d causes many unwanted changes like weight gain, insulin resistance, hair thinning and loss, hirsutism, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, anxiety, depression and puts you at high risk for many other diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, endometriosis and cancer. Everyday is a battle for those suffering. I'm asking if everyone could put this as their status for 1 hour. I'm pretty sure I know the ones that will. Think of someone you know or love who has PCOS. My hope is that in the near future, a cure will be found. Many women are going undiagnosed, untreated and unsupported. Will you post it for 1 hour to honor those who have fought or are fighting PCOS? Marie
