Balance Training Check out Jyoti's balance! Impressive! How's your balance?? Do you even care? You should. For some key reasons. ************... Ok runners! Listen up! Running is a single leg rotational exercise. It's basically hoppitty hop hopping from one foot to the other. While you're gleefully hoppitty hop hopping, your torso also rotates from side to side as your arms swing. What happens when the surface you're running on is icy, snowy, muddy, covered in small gravel, off kilter, and/or super steep? Or the light is crappy? Or you're tired? Or you just stop paying attention? Your balance becomes challenged. Think about it... you're on one leg while controlling your upwards, forwards, downwards, AND rotational movement ALL AT THE SAME TIME. And then add in a patch of ice hidden in the shadows after you've been running for a few hours and the sun has gone down and all you can think about is a shower beer and all the food. Yard sale!! Train your balance and develop the proprioception of your feet, ankles, and lower legs, and you reduce your risk of falling and hurting yourself. ************ Ok folks in the older generations! Your turn to listen up! Who knows someone who fell and broke a hip?? I do! Training your balance as you age is CRITICAL to preventing falls! We all lose bone density as we age (we can slow this process through lifting weights), and we all develop a higher risk of breaks because of this. Training your balance means you react faster to changes on the surface you're walking or standing on. The faster you react the sooner you catch yourself and the less likely you are to fall. The older you are, the less good prognosis you have for recovery from a broken bone. So do what you can to prevent a broken bone in the first place. ************ Does all this make sense? It should. And it's simple to do. You don't need any special equipment. Common things you have in your house work awesome for balance training. Spine mobility. Your spine is the support column for your entire body. Stiffness in your spine means the rest of the body can't move freely. Back injuries cause the body to guard and stop moving freely. The brain sends signals to muscles telling them tighten to protect the injured area. At first this might be beneficial, but if allowed to continue it will cause chronic problems and long term stiffness and pain. And a reduced quality of life. I KNOW. Improve your mobility and ...improve your quality of life. Working at a desk causes your spine to stiffen up and allows pain to creep in because your posture will deteriorate - hello end of day slump! I know. Improve your spine mobility and improve your work day. Training, lifting, and running are hard work for the body and can result in back and spine stiffness due to increased loads and impact. Trying to do rotational exercises in the gym and your back feels tight? I know. Improve your spine mobility and you improve all of your physical pursuits. Mobility, prehab, and rehab are one of my specialities. If you are moving through life in pain, can't enjoy the thing you love to do, struggling with a problem area that won't improve, or can't play with your kids, I can help you say goodbye to that pain. Pain sucks. I know and I want to help you. Recover Better, live better. #summitathletes #teamunicorn #elevateyourperformance #INVICTUS

Critical Speed, known to me and my athletes as Tempo. The fastest pace you can maintain for one full hour. Without dying. When done right, Critical Speed, or Tempo, will bring big rewards, but at the expense of big challenges. This type of training teaches your body how to raise the aerobic ceiling and how to recycle the waste products of aerobic respiration back into the fueling system. But the biggest benefit is that this type of training teaches you how to work hard and su...stain that effort despite everything in your brain telling you to stop. Tempo is hard, and it should be because you're literally running on a fine physiological line. Because this type is training is a hard effort, it comes with risks if it's included too often in a training program. Tempo should be balanced with runs that are squarely in the aerobic zone. Run too hard too often and your body will not thank you. In fact, it will probably go on strike against you. A well-balanced aerobic program coupled with specific strength training and prehab exercises will help you meet your speed and distance goals without overtraining. No body is the same as the next, and no body moves the same as the next. The next time you're out and about, take a moment to observe the different ways that people move as they're walking or running. I do this daily and it is fascinating! Yes, I'm a total geek and I own it! As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, I am trained to assess your movement and help correct muscular imbalances that can/are causing stress in the body, and that can/have resulted in an injury. However, cr...eating a muscular balance to change your movement is not always my goal. Your body is constructed in a particular way, with particular lever lengths and angles that work together in a very specific way. Trying to make changes to your movement can often result in bigger problems. Therefore, learning HOW to work with your body and developing the strength to protect it over the long haul is always my goal. Have a nagging pain (in the ass??) that's been bugging you? I can probably help you with that! Shoot me a message and let's talk about it, like a lot more. https://bit.ly/3gsvmeL We offer fitness training services.
