Hey fitness friends! I saw this post on another page this morning... Years ago, my excuse was I’m too busy to put fitness and wellness as my number one priority. Fast-forward to today, I’m never too busy to hit the gym, meal prep, get outside or spend time doing the things that bring me JOY! By putting these priorities first, I’m in a better position to take care of myself, my kids and also makes me a better leader for my staff! This past year has been a trying year on so many levels for each of us; however, hopefully you’ve managed to see how important your health and wellness is to managing your mental and physical well-being. Masks are mandatory at the gym starting today!!! I was definitely a little panicked to work out with a mask this morning but guess what - NO BIG DEAL!! Seriously! Other than sounding like Darth Vader on the bench #lol I’m committed to my fitness and I’m committed to keeping my family (home & work) safe, so if this is the new protocol then great - I will support it! We all need to do our part! Even if your gym hasn’t mandated this, please wear a mask, so we can continue to keep these facilities open! Happy Birthday to my girrrrrrl Olivia Besanger today! This woman changed my life and has helped shaped who I am today. We've only known each other for five-ish years, but I am beyond proud to say she is one of my closest friends. We've been through so many adventures together....training, trips, hikes, snowshoes, x-country ski days, and the list goes on. Most recently we became business partners and there isn't anyone that has more grit, stamina and passion for what she bel...ieves in. She is the first to celebrate your wins and the first to be there when you need a swift kick in the you-know-what!! She's not only the best trainer out there, she's an incredible Mom to two beautiful girls, an amazing wife, but she's a 'best friend' to all that have the privilege to know her. We all need something to keep us moving and motivated. For me, it's daily activity! I took the day off yesterday as my legs were sore from a workout Saturday and my run on Sunday. The result....I was lethargic, sat at my desk most of the day cleaning out my emails and had ZERO energy. Today I knew I had to start the day with activity, so I quickly signed up for the Peloton app this morning. They are offering a 90 day free trial. I just did a 30 min ride and while not the sa...me as a spin class (socially), it was quite motivating to "feel" like I was part of a fitness community. I even weirdly clapped at the end (haha) with everyone in the class. If you have treadmill, spin bike, yoga mats or a workout space, Peloton offers strength, yoga, spin, meditation, stretching and walking classes FREE for 90 days. This is a great option to get a workout in. I also lack the discipline to stretch and meditate, so I will give these a whirl in the next few days! Stay tuned fitness fans ;)

Thanks to my Den Tribe for giving me the much-needed kick in the butt! We had a virtual coffee date this morning and it ignited a fire in me to get moving and get my nutrition back on track. A nice, easy 5km run (whatevs!!) for this non-runner. Since most races are cancelled or will be cancelled, it makes sense to keep training going and sign-up for some virtual runs. Especially since I got these new runners to keep my feet moving! This was so easy and so amazing! One can tuna, light mayo with hot sauce in a lettuce wrap. As the threat continues, I’m even more determined to keep our family safe with good nutrition, hydration and rest!! I’m not sleeping very much as my mind is filled with all kinds of distractions all night long, so today because I’m tired I put in a dedicated glute and ab workout and will drink lots of tea throughout the day to keep hydrated. The last two days, despite saying the only thing I can control is my reaction to what is going on. Well, saying that and doing that are two different things! I’ve struggled mentally, emotionally and physically for two days!! Closing our doors to two businesses (one being a start-up) at the same time = a ton of stress and a TON of guilt. I drowned my sorrows in chocolate and ice cream yesterday. Basically, said F-it. Today, I have a headache and my body hurts and honestly, m...y pride is crushed! I’ve worked hard for months, well actually years, to build strength, lose fat and find that headspace to handle whatever life throws at me. Yet, here I am wallowing in these world events letting this chaos control my behaviour and decisions. Well, no more!! REMEMBER, we all have a choice here. Keep exercising, keep your nutrition in check, keep hydrating and get lots of sleep! Today I worked out....it's been over two weeks since I had a workout due to being busy, stress, travelling and being sick. I did hit the gym in Mexico (one time), but that was a mistake... my body wasn't ready and I paid for it afterwards. Today, I spent the morning working out with six amazing strong women at one of our classes at The Den. At the moment, I was purely focusing on catching my breath and trying to get through the workout. But now, upon reflecting on this mornin...g, I am so amazed and blessed to have been able to watch these women crush goals this morning. There was focus and determination, like I haven't seen. Our world is turned upside down right now, events and travel being cancelled....we are in the midst of the unknown. But here we are this morning: moving our bodies, working hard, getting stronger. So, even if you're unsure about the future and what life looks like beyond this, remember that staying healthy, continuing your fitness programs, eating nutritious food and staying hydrated (plus practicing good hygiene) will keep you going strong and able to take care of those around you! The timing of this post is PERFECT!! I have been struggling balancing my full-time job and coaching classes at The Den AND trying to fit my own workouts in - this unbalance and change in routine has been causing me some stress. This morning I woke super early, so zipped down to The Den to get a good heart-racing workout in! This sets the stage for my entire day, I feel focused and ready to tackle anything!! So when you’re feeling the pressure, stress or lack of focus, go workout - get sweaty. That feeling of accomplishing a workout is AMAZING!
