Finding the perfect flow in decision making can take years. This sweet little write up by Canadian mountain guide Larry Stanier (read: guiding legend!) summarizes the process beautifully. Enjoy and remember; go or no go, know how to use the flow!

Are you planning a ski trip on glaciated terrain this winter? How would you ascend this glacier? Join our upcoming crevasse rescue course this Sunday (Jan 10) and learn the basics of glacier travel and crevasse rescue for backcountry skiers. We still have spaces. Here is a link to the program: https://summitmountainguides.com//p/crevasse_rescue_cours/ This is a photo from one of our ski mountaineering basecamp in the Northern Monashee a few years back. We managed to find a way through this unnamed glacier and made a successful ascent of Monashee Peak.

Happy New Year!!! May the new year bring you joy, health and realization! We look forward to skiing or climbing with you in the new year if possible. Here are some photos from the last few weeks of playing around in the snow and ice with many of our cherished guests. We all know the benefits of outdoor activities on our mental and physical health. We will continue to run programs for our regional guests indefinitely and look forward to being able to host our international guests soon. Thanks for your continued support and all the best with the new year!

Throughout the Summer season, we run a number of courses on improvised rescue and climbing systems. The most common question we get on our courses is by far: "how do you lower a follower that is being belayed directly on the anchor from above"? The answer is not simple but the technique is similar for most belay devices with direct anchor capabilities. See photo 3 & 4 for a glance at great overall system images. Let us know if you have any questions. To get hands on practice with coaching, sign up for one of our courses! . #summit_mtn_guides #mountainperspective #alpinerock #mountainskills

Establishing new climbing routes in the local mountains is one of our favorite thing. The excitement of the unknown combined with the exploration and discoveries often lead to a great felling of accomplishment. Last summer I had the pleasure to share a new route adventure with uber fit local athlete @jazminerosalynn on Trident Peak in the Devils Range of the Valhallas. It was a short but super sweet route on beautiful south facing alpine rock which went at D- 5.10d 7p. On top of being a fun and successful adventure, it reminded me of how lucky we are to have the ability to explore such untamed and protected wilderness. Stay tuned for route details in some of our local climbing groups!

Photos from a few weeks ago while training with our regional Search and Rescue Volunteers. We spent a weekend reviewing various rock climbing skills including; improvised rescue, lead climbing, rope ascending, technical descents along with organized rescue skills. The week-end culminated with a scenario involving an injured climber requiring a helicopter pick-off on a multi pitch route conveniently located right across the airport in Nelson! We are pretty lucky to have such skilled and dedicated SAR team members in our community! Thank-you!
