Laser hair removal is literally a miracle worker when it comes to getting rid of hair But not all lasers work equally. And some can be very harmful if they're not meant for your skin type. The shorter wavelength lasers (which are not so common anymore) can actually burn darker skin types and destroy melanin to cause Hypopigmentation (lighter patches than overall skin color). In olive/brown women these lasers can cause Hyperpigmentation (dark spots). ... We have highlighted the key differences for you in our post, just swipe away so next time you get laser/get it for the first time make sure you ask these questions: 1. What machine they use? 2. What wavelength the laser operates at? 3. What brand it is and where it was made? (Often cheap knock offs can do more harm than good) 4. Is the machine safe for your hair/skin type and will it produce effective results? 5. Is the aesthetician/technician licensed to practice laser hair removal? (You'd be surprised by how many unlicensed techs you find) . . . . . . . #

Cystic zits suck Acne is one thing, INFLAMMATORY Acne is another. They aren't just clogged pores anymore, they're red, tender, painful and DEEPLY clogged- aka take realllyy long to recover. If you're someone who's struggling with these "underground pimples" then the first thing you need to do is learn which type of inflamed acne you have. Why? Different severity requires different treatment. The main types include: Papules, Pustules, Cysts and Nodules. Swipe to see the mai...n difference between each type. Coming to treatments, the earlier you catch it, the less painful the process. But first thing, DO NOT try to pop them, if you want to avoid scarring. It's not easy, but RESIST the urge, future you will thank you later. For early stages, try medicated Acne patches - one's with salicylic acid (unclog pores) & niacinamide (anti inflammatory) usually work well. If it's too tender/painful, try icing it first. will constrict the blood vessels & calm down inflammation reduce zit size. On fully developed zits, try BENZOYL PEROXIDE - this works as an anti bacterial & anti keratolytic (sheds skin to unclog pores). Adding an otc hydrocortisone cream on top also calms it down more. RETINOL - this derivative of Vitamin A does a lot - stops excess keratin build up, reduces oil production, prevents bacterial growth and inflammation. But since it's OTC, it's milder & slower than prescription retinoids. PEEL WITH BHA - high concentration salicylic (a beta hydroxy acid) can soften keratin plugs and shed excess layers, but it doesn't help severe inflammation. If none of these work, then its time to see a Dermatologist. Their first line is usually an oral antibiotic and topical retinoid (Tretinoin) ointment. And the final line of treatment is "Oral Isotretinoin" popularly known as "Accutane" This powerful, (often) red pill is the most effective treatment for severe inflamed acne. It essentially works like retinol BUT at a much deeper level and systemically (effecting the entire body), unlike retinol which is topical. This active does come with some side effects - so make sure you discuss them with your doctor!

BUTTNE - Talk about LITERAL pain in the ! A bumpy butt might seem like a personal attack from the Acne Gods, but frankly its pretty easy to get rid of. Those red bumps and pimples that you see on your buttocks are not TRUE acne, it's actually an inflamed hair follicle medically called "Folliculitis". But it can easily be mistaken for acne. We usually get these bumps because our hair follicles get blocked by sweat, making a perfect home for bacteria to multiply - resulting in... an infection and an inflamed follicle. Here are our recommendations on how to handle buttne: KEEP IT CLEAN - As we mentioned sweat is the main offender of butt acne. So keeping it clean especially after workouts or just a regular long day will go miles in preventing bumpy BENZOYL PEROXIDE - this active releases oxygen free radicals upon application which works like magic to kill acne causing AND Folliculitis causing bacteria. It also breaks down keratin layers allowing drainage of oil, sweat and debris from follicles. SALICYLIC ACID - an oil soluble anti keratolytic that breaks keratin, dissolves debris and calms down any inflammation RETINOIDS - This is every dermatologists and estheticians FAVORITE ingredient. Because there is SO MUCH research backing up how effective it is. It blocks ALL cellular pathways for acne formation - excess keratin formation, sebum production, inflammatory molecule production. Simply put, the first 2 acids will treat buttne, retinoids prevents the root cause. BREATHABLE CLOTHES - The looser and lighter the fabric of your clothes, the less likely you are to cause sweat build up or irritate an existing butt pimple. Try cotton underwear - which prevents chafing, a classic offender of buttne SEE A PROFESSIONAL - If you REALLY want to get rid of butt acne quickly, one of the best treatments is getting an in office chemical peel by a medical esthetician OR reaching out to a dermatologist for an antibiotic ointment. Chemical peels have higher concentration of chemical exfoliants and really help to shed off layers of skin, while antibiotics will help kill bacteria and calm inflammation.

BLACKHEADS! They're the bane of our existence. And YES! Even skin care professionals struggle to keep them at bay. Why? The larger your pores (GENETIC) the more easy it is for dirt, oil, dead skin and bacteria to build up & it really doesn't take time for all that to oxidize causing unseeming blackheads. If you're a chronic sufferer of blackheads - you may never truly be able to get rid of blackheads for good (thanks, Mom & Dad), but you CAN keep them from getting bumpy and... unsightly using these active ingredients/treatments SALICYLIC ACID - this is usually the drug of choice for blackheads. It's an oil-soluble anti keratolytic (aka penetrates oil & softens the outer keratin layer of skin by increasing moisture) and helps unclog pores. It also has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. AZELAIC ACID - another anti keratolytic, but its also anti bacterial with stronger anti inflammatory properties allowing better control of acne bacteria & prevents acne associated rosacea and/or hyperpigmentation. It however acts slowly & requires consistent use to see results which is why it is not the drug of choice. RETINOIDS - This is every dermatologists and estheticians FAVORITE ingredient. Because there is SO MUCH research backing up how effective it is. It blocks ALL cellular pathways for acne formation - excess keratin formation, sebum production, inflammatory molecule production. Simply put, the first 2 acids will treat blackheads, retinoids prevents the root cause. AHA Peels - Of the AHA's Glycolic acid peels are the most efficient. They're the smallest in size & can penetrate deeper to breakdown keratin plugs and stimulate cell renewal. It also stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen & elastin. This treatment works best in combination with salicylic acid because AHAs are not oil soluble. EXTRACTIONS - professional aestheticians are trained to extract comedones without risking infection, inflammation or scarring. NON COMEDOGENIC SKINCARE - Product acne is more common than you think & 90% people use comedogenic skincare without even knowing. We recommend checking the label for the phrase "non comedogenic" to ensure it won't clog pores.

"The skin is the mirror of the soul" Its true - our skin shows our emotions. Our brain regulates hormonal responses based on our experiences and these hormones have a direct effect on our skin - the largest organ of our body. So what are HAPPINESS HORMONES? There are 4 key hormones that are responsible for happiness ... DOPAMINE - aka the "feel good" hormone is what motivates you yo take action towards your goals & desire and makes you feel on top of the world when you achieve them. Procrastination, self doubt and lack of enthusiasm are linked with low dopamine. Studies show that low dopamine is associated with poor diet, low energy & poor sleep quality. All of which can down regulate skin cell renewal causing premature skin aging. SEROTONIN - this is the real "happy hormone". When someone is depressed, they have low levels of serotonin and doctors prescribe drugs to upregulate its levels. It naturally increases when you feel content/satisfied or significant. Loneliness depletes serotonin. This hormone is actually increased by UV exposure. No wonder we all love a day out at the Although this hormone is KEY for mood, it also stimulates dermal fibroblasts which produce collagen & elastin. Its also seen that it stops melanogenesis in melanoma (SKIN CANCER) cells. Cool right? OXYTOCIN - this hormone is released mainly during sex, orgasm or by mothers during childbirth & breastfeeding. It creates intimacy (aka love), builds trust and healthy relationships. It also increases "fidelity". Men in relationships who were given an oxytocin boost interacted less with single women than men who weren't. In the SKIN it regulates fibroblast & keratinocyte cell renewal. It protects from oxidative stress and inflammatory molecule production. ENDORPHIN - released in response to pain & stress to alleviate anxiety. The "euphoric" feeling you get after a good run, good laugh or a good date is thanks to endorphins. Good smells like lavender, vanilla or chocolate also increase endorphins. In our skin endorphins can reduce the stress hormone "cortisol". Corisol is infamous for oil secretion from our sebaceous glands, which cause ACNE.

When you convince bae to do your skincare routine along with you! Skincare isn't just for ladies. Its just as important for men to get on their skincare game before its too late. Although, men do tend to age more gradually than women. Why you ask? Its because signs of aging are interlinked with our sex hormones - estrogen in women & testosterone in men. Estrogen starts to dip quite a lot after age 30, triggering slower production of collagen & elastin - the proteins that... give our skin that firmness & plump. Testosterone also behins to dip at 30 but much much slower than estrogen.Testosterone is what makes a man’s skin thicker and oilier compared to that of a woman. Nevertheless, it's still a good feeling to have our partner share our interests and maintain themselves for us. For decades, women have enjoyed a wide range of anti-aging products marketed specifically for them. BUT in recent years men have been given more options to help themretaintheir youthful-looking skin. Designed specifically for a man’s skin, these products can help men reduce deep wrinkles and treat under-the-eye bags to restore their good looks. . . . . . . . . #skincare #skincaretips #skinscience #oakville

Frown lines? We don't know her Thinking about botox? This is the BEST time to get. It takes about 5 to 7 days to kick in but the results get BETTER after a few weeks. All the fine lines and wrinkles slowly smoothen and you're left with a glistening, wrinkle-free forehead (or whatever part of the face you decide to treat). Which means you're going to be the of every (virtual) holiday party and the Beyonce of your bathroom mirror! Not sure about how many units you... need? Every individual needs different amounts based on how deep set their wrinkles are, but here's the BASIC guideline: Forehead - 40 units Frown lines - 40 units Crows feet - 30 units Eyebrow lift - 10 to 12 units Smile lift - 8 to 10 units Dimpled chin - 8 to 10 units Feel free to comment or dm us if you have questions. Caffeine! Our body has a love hate relationship with this wonderful drug! Yes, A DRUG. The FDA defines it as a drug because of its ability to stimulate the central nervous system. Caffeine can give you a temporary energy boost or if you are like us "the reason to wake up most mornings." . It is also know to elevate mood by increasing excitability Now we know it does alot for the brain. But is it helpful for the skin? The real answer is "yes and no". The benefits of ca...ffeine on the skin depend on how you consume it and how much you consume. Studies have shown that TOPICAL use of caffeine can be quite potent at reversing UV damage by binding to and eliminating reactive oxidation species. It also works as a diuretic (drugs that make you pee more) by constricting blood vessels. This actually really helps to eliminate that facial swelling we all experience especially those nasty undereye bags . BUT just like every good thing in the world, too much of it can have bad effects, specifically oral consumption too much caffeine. Since it makes you pee more, it will dehydrate your skin quickly. The acids in caffeine along with any sugar or dairy you add to your drink will spike a hormone called insulin which will cause over production of oil, clogging pores and triggering acne Caffeine also spikes another hormone called cortisol which is the fight or flight hormone. This is also the hormone that spikes during anxiety attacks. And it can cause faster break down of collagen causing wrinkles. The most common con is sleeplessness. Deep sleep also called REM sleep is an important time for our body to restore and repair cellular damage. And too much caffeine can disrupt this natural process. So which team are you on? Team "coffee is life!" Or "I don't care for it".
