This turned out awesome! Trends come and go, but this fireplace looks like it’s been there for 50 years. Huge thanks to Damon and Beth @ Ravenrock Stone! Look em’ up with you’re in need of a stone mason in the HRM.
It’s been a challenge to find the perfect tile sub-contractor, most of them are good, not great. On this project the guy didn’t even show up....The struggle is real! We couldn’t bump the schedule so I rearranged my day and tiled it myself. It’s been years since I’ve tiled anything professionally, can ya tell?? Bumps in the road are inevitable. Problem solving is 50% of the job. Very happy to keep this project on schedule and proud of the results! ... If you know a great tile guy please send him my way!
This was the homeowner’s idea. He spent a lot of time making this tree smooth and shiny. A beautiful birch handrail leading to the loft.
Design, build, paint. Although I don’t have anything to do with step 3, the results are always my favourite.
Solar install all wrapped up at our Passive house lake project. Great job by Solar Ascent! #passivehouse #solarascent #solargains... #habitstudio #renewableenergy See more
Back to finish up the baseboards on a house we built last spring on the eastern shore. The client is back from Europe, finished her quarantine and excited to get this one wrapped up. Us too!
Tile day at our Passive house lake project!
The tempered glass finally arrived at our Paces Lake project. Just in time for the sun!
Who doesn’t love a large window? The light, the view, the ever changing scenery. They add so much beauty into our lives. Choosing the right windows can drastically improve the efficiency of the house, and these high performance windows will help save the owners thousands on their heating and cooling bill over the years. Check out how thick the windows are! They were definitely interesting to install. (Interesting=heavy) Happy international window day....?... #passivehouse #habitstudio #vettawindows #heavy! #worthit

Three layers of insulation complete! Just one of the main design principles of building a Passive house. This 1350 sqft main floor requires just under 1500 watts needed to heat the space. That’s the equivalent of a hair dryer!! Design smart, save later! #passivehouse #habitstudio... #warmwintercoolsummer See more
Valentine’s Day gotcha feeling blue??
We’re still waiting on our windows, coming all the way from Poland . Won’t be long now, until then we’re picking away at the many layers of insulation. It’s getting warm in here! #sustainableconstruction #passivehouse #insulation... #slab #warmingup! See more
Progress pics of the deck being built. It’s not everyday we get to play with big timbers, happy when we do!
Huge thanks to my friend Daniel McSparron for making our wood storage dreams come true. It’s perfect, we love it! If you’re in need of any custom metal, stainless steel or aluminum work check out his website evolvedmetalwork.com. He’s extremely talented, a real artist! Thanks again, Irish Dan, and thanks Evolved Metal Work!
Todays view from the office. Mentally, not prepared for snow yet...
It’s a challenging time of year to sheath a roof, but as they say.... the show must go on. Next step, build the deck so we can finish this roof. #passivehouse #sustainableconstruction #customhome... #firstonetoseethisview #habitstudio See more

What’s the verdict? Are we into this tile?? Better question... do we keep going?
Footings are in! We’ve been working on this project for a while now, happy to finally get started! Passive house on the lake.... stay tuned!
How about that heat!?! Anyone care to come play on the roof with us?? Still have a couple more days on this roof system, just in time for the heatwave to break....
This client asked if we could make an affordable, free standing set of stairs. Something with a rustic cottage vibe. Fun project for the rainy days!
Cedar cedar cedar.... half way there!
Blue skies and fresh air keep me grounded!
It’s cold, but it’s beautiful! Good morning Halifax!
This old growth timber lived in the attic of a Southend Halifax home for over 150 years (after it grew to be this size!) It is now continuing its afterlife as a mantle above a granite fireplace in St. Margaret’s Bay. Those tight rings are strangely comforting aren’t they??
Day 1 on our cabin project, sure was a chilly one!
