Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions Sunderland Legion Branch #141 will not be holding a public Remembrance Day service on November 11, 2020. Wreaths purchased by individuals and business will be placed at the cenotaph by Legion members that day. The poppy campaign will start October 30, 2020 and poppies will be available for donations at many local business. The community is welcomed to take a moment to pay their respects to those who sacrificed so much for our freedom by leaving their poppy on the large people’s wreath which will be on site at the cenotaph that day. LEST WE FORGET

Honouring Veterans In today’s fast-paced world, it can be easy to take our way of life for granted, and forget what so many men and women sacrificed for our freedoms. Remembrance initiatives remind us to take time to honour those who have dedicated their lives to serve our nation. Find out how you can honour Veterans during the 2020 period of Remembrance. https://www.legion.ca/remembrance

Robert (Bob) G Wonnacott's story in his own words. I was born in the mid 30's in Oshawa Ontario, the youngest son of five children and was raised and schooled there until 20 yrs. old. I then joined The Royal Canadian Air Force where I received training in electronics with an emphasis on aircraft radar and navigation systems. For five years a large variety of Air Force, ground and aircraft electronics equipment was brought into #6 Repair Depot in Trenton which gave a wealth ...of experience in different equipment repair. Time there gave short trips to seven Provinces in Canada, England, Germany, France and USA. The next five years were spent in servicing the Voodoo Fighters in Alberta and Quebec. This program gave many challenges and advanced knowledge in electronics. In 1965 I left the Air Force and moved my family to Ajax, Ontario. I found work at an electronics plant in Whitby where I designed and built and repaired test equipment. 1979 The Wonnacott family of six moved to Sunderland into The Pines development. This is still home having retired in 1997 to a more peaceful life. In Brock, time is mainly spent in church work and Legion. See more

APPEAL TO COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORT As I am sure you realize our Legion branch 141 has been closed since mid MARCH - No Monthly Breakfasts, No Bingo, No Hall Rentals, No Maple Syrup Breakfast (our big fundraiser), No Senior Lunches, No Shuffleboard, No Pub Nights.... This translates to NO $ besides no fun, and building expenses are still ongoing. The Legion building is the HUB for activity in Sunderland and an important community asset. YOUR MONETARY SUPPORT would be greatly app...reciated ONE WAY is to join as a Member; Note: for sometime now, you have NOT needed to be a Veteran or have served or had someone in the family. We do good work for the veterans and in the community and your participation and supporting this long time Canadian institution is welcome. Our first year is free; however, some people choose to wave and pay the $65 annual fee. Please contact Tina Enderwick, Membership Officer at [email protected] for a membership form or questions. Cheques can be mailed to: Sunderland Legion Branch 141 P.O. Box 173 Sunderland, Ontario L0C 1H0
