I know that some of you are concerned about food security - about the low percentage of your plate that actually comes from somewhere local. Well, have you eve...r thought about fashion security? I'm not talking about making sure that your shirt buttons stay closed so that you don't reveal a belly button. No, I'm talking about fabric security - where does your wardrobe come from? And what can you do about it? Now, I'm not looking for yet one more thing for you to feel guilty about. Honest. But we have a farm-to-fork movement now. How about a soil-to-skin movement? Or farm-fresh clothing? (When I was growing up, we referred to "farm fresh" clothing as having a particular, very pungent odour.) But this month's Food Notes Book on the Coffee Table is all about fibre security (and not the internet access type). It is called "Fibershed: Growing a Movement of Farmers, Fashion Activists, and Makers for a New Textile Economy," and was written by Rebecca Burgess. You can download the review at https://foodnotes.ca/book-reviews. Brought to you by the Food Notes people. (Let me know if you have trouble accessing it, and I can e-mail you the review.)

Tomorrow is the start of #WasteReductionWeek in Canada! This annual reminder of where we stand on waste reduction and where we need to go is more relevant than ...ever. Concepts like food waste and circular economies can be scaled up and down from the individual to the collective, and that is the beauty of waste reduction. This doesn’t (and shouldn’t!) have to be an individual effort, as governments, schools, businesses, and organizations can pledge their commitment to waste reduction as well. Waste Reduction Week starts on the third Monday of every October, so you and your group can plan ahead for future years. #yeg #edmonton #yegwaste #yegliving #wastefreeyeg
