Exfoliation Facts: Your skin makes up about 16 percent of your body weight, which means you have roughly 1.6 trillion skin cells. . Of course, this estimate varies from person to person according the the persons size. ... . The important thing is you have ALOT of skin cells. Of those billions of skin cells, between 30,000 - 40,000 fall off every hour . Over a 24-hour period, you lose almost a million skin cells! . Your spray tan only effects the top layer of your skin, this will shed, usually unevenly without proper exfoliation, about every 10 days. . Meaning, you will need to exfoliate before your tan so that the tan will go on evenly . Make sure to pay attention to dry areas, such as your feet, knees, elbows, wrists, around the armpit area, and the inner parts of the thighs. . You should use a salt or sugar scrub with no sulphates or parabens, as these can break down the tan (ABSOLUTELY NO DOVE SOAP), alongside with a exfoliating mitt (walmart has them for $4.00) or a exfoliating brush. . Make sure to be gentle, its important to have a warm bath or shower to soften the skin before exfoliating! . Always moisturize after exfoliating (a very good moisturizer is Hemps), make sure your moisturizer is free of parabens and sulphates, as this breaks down the tan. . The only time you don't moisturize is the day of your tan, we want to make sure the skin is all clean of any deodorants, perfumes or makeup as this will cause a barrier and the spray tan will not apply evenly. . The most important step! Stay HYDRATED! A tan loves nothing more then hydrated skin.
