Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre 02.12.2020

Dear Family & Friends of Sunnyside; I am writing to update you since my November 27 letter to you. On November 27 I informed you that a staff member who last worked at Sunnyside on November 20, has tested positive for Covid-19. As soon as we were notified of the positive result we immediately closed the neighbourhood where the staff member worked and isolated all residents and staff that work there. Covid-19 testing was done for all the staff and residents in the neighbour...hood. We did have one resident test come back positive, the rest of the residents and staff were all negative. This one resident was immediately isolated with their own care giver so there is no contact with other residents or staff. As per Health Authority practise, any care home with two or more positive Covid-19 cases is considered to be in a Covid-19 outbreak for 28 days. We did a second test of all the residents on the neighbourhood this Monday. All the results are negative again except the same one. We are closely monitoring our residents from all neighbourhoods and at the present time no other residents are showing any signs or symptoms of Covid-19. Our staff are well trained in being screened every day and stay home if they feel sick in any way. We had an inspection by the Health Authority Infection Control Practitioner this past Monday and all outbreak control measures have been implemented. We will continue to work closely with public health authorities to take every precaution necessary to contain the virus, with the health and safety of our residents and staff remaining our top priority. We remain fully staffed and have enough cleaning and personal protective supplies. To check on how your loved one is doing, please call them if they have a telephone, or you can call our Recreation team at 306-653-1267 ext. 140 to arrange a Face Time visit or call our nurses on duty at 306-653-1267 ext. 124. For further more information contact me at [email protected] or 306-653-1267 ext. 123. I check email and voice mail several times per day, seven days per week. Take care everyone, Randy Kurtz Administrator

Dear Family & Friends of Sunnyside; I am writing to let you know a staff member who last worked at Sunnyside seven days ago on November 20, has tested positive for Covid-19. At the present time no other staff or residents are showing any signs or symptoms of Covid-19. Sunnyside has been proactive in implementing infection control and screening protocols since the beginning of the pandemic. The management and staff at Sunnyside are working closely with the Saskatchewan Healt...h Authority and Public Health officials to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking extra steps, including Covid-19 testing to protect the health of all residents and staff. We do not have a Covid-19 outbreak at Sunnyside, however, outbreak control measures at the home have been implemented. We will continue to work closely with public health authorities to take every precaution necessary to contain the virus, with the health and safety of our residents and staff remaining our top priority. We remain fully staffed and have enough cleaning and personal protective supplies. To check on how your loved one is doing, please call them if they have a telephone, you can call our Recreation team at 306-653-1267 ext. 140 to arrange a Face Time visit or call the nurses on duty at 306-653-1267 ext. 124. We will continue with our outbreak control measures until the Medical Health Officer says it is OK to stop. If anything changes regarding our current status I will send out an update. We remain committed to supporting our residents as we face the challenges of this pandemic together. I am proud of how the Sunnyside care partners have responded to this challenge. Further more information contact: Randy Kurtz, Administrator at [email protected] or 306-653-1267 ext. 123. I check email and voice mail several times per day, seven days per week. I will stay in touch, together we can get through this. Randy Kurtz Administrator

Effective immediately Sunnyside has made the following improvements to our family visits. 1) We have increased the # of visitors allowed from 2 to 4 as long as they are all from the same house. 2) Children can come and visit too. They count as part of the maximum of 4. 3) If the weather is bad, family scheduled for an outside visit can be moved inside instead of cancelling. The family visitor has to be a designated family member for inside visits and only one family member... can come inside at a time. Each resident can have two designated family members for inside visits. Please contact Recreation at 306-653-1267 ext 140 to let us know who the designated family members are for inside visits. If you have any questions about visiting your loved one at Sunnyside please contact our Recreation department at the # above.
