'Home for the Holidays' was our theme this morning. Our club president and toastmaster for the day Ben Arthur presented this poem to the group to kick off our meeting. Check it out below; Home for the Holidays by Ben Arthur... Holiday time is fast approaching Santa has readied his sleigh. He’s trying to get an itinerary together, But something stands in his way. He flies to the south, worried and weary The weather is holding just fine. He shivers, his cold breath clouding around him Scared he’s running out of time. He’s stopped by a spotlight shining right on him Saint Nicholas has been exposed. From a loudspeaker comes the RCMP warning STOP, our borders are closed! So, in step the parents to take up the burden And dress up like Saint Nick. Their moms and dads are up to the task, But it needs to happen quick. Run off to the store and battle the masses In order to pick up some toys. The girls asked for makeup, dolls and clothes Trucks and guns for the boys. They’ll keep him alive in mind and soul By giving him the praise. They’ll band together with love and faith These joyful Christmas days. Before at her parents for big turkey dinner, Last year steak pie at his mum’s. The meat, the sides and all the fixings The stuffing with real breadcrumbs. Not this year, with all of its problems They’ll have to cook something new They won’t miss a beat, trying so hard Whatever they have to do. It’s chicken or ham, turkey or steak pie The recipes they must borrow A true Christmas dinner is full of joy They won’t have any sorrow. It won’t be easy to be there at home Without all their family and friends But time home alone might be just what they need To give this great country a cleanse. So, shop with your mask on, wash your darn hands And keep your distance from others. These measures they take to protect our dearest Our Opa, our Oma, our mothers. It’s hard to think if they get this one wrong How on our conscience it weighs. That’s why this year with all things considered I’ll be staying Home for the Holidays

World Champion of Public Speaking appears at Sunrise meeting! Well, he appeared "virtually." The Tuesday, October 6 meeting was an educational one on "Effective Evaluations." Jock Mackenzie gave a speech on the topic and then Grayham and Mavis attempted to evaluate the 2019 world champ - a daunting task. Bill provided Table Topics on "Choices" and Mike, as Humorist, entertained us (via Zoom) with a punny account of his failures to find suitable employment.
