Club Fat Ass does it again - and again. Running in the wilderness, or urban streets, Ean Jackson lives with XSNRG. Season's Greetings. Keep your distance and stay well.
This tree fell across the Toquenatch Trail during the most recent storms. It's called a tweener--hard to go under or over, especially with a heavy pack. Now it's no longer a problem.
*SCT UPDATE* As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise in our province, we have made the decision to keep the Sunshine Coast Trail huts closed until further notice. We wholeheartedly welcome hikers to use the trail, but please remember to pack a tent if choosing to stay overnight and practice physical distancing with those outside your bubble. Our volunteer trail maintenance crew will continue to maintain the trail but please note, they will not be sanitizing the outho...uses. The outhouses are open to use at your own risk. The PRPAWS board will be working towards a plan to safely re-open the huts according to provincial guidelines and would like to thank the community for having patience during this time. Stay safe, stay healthy!
With the continued closure of our local Sunshine Coast Trail huts, we must work together to keep an attractant free and clean campsite when tenting overnight. R...emember to pack out what you pack in! Bears have an excellent memory and will continue returning to areas where they have found a food reward in the past. Not only can food scraps and garbage attract bears, but also smaller wildlife such as squirrels, raccons, birds and rats. Let's work together to keep wildlife wild and our community safe! Rain or shine this is a good trail to hike.
Our backcountry is being celebrated by many locals that have taken to the mountains in numbers, but visitors from afar are now coming around as well. Planning before the unthinkable.... The Eldred Valley is chatted about in coffee shops, fine eateries and craft beer establishments. Even if you aren't a climber you will still be astonished by the beauty and the thrill. Yes, that's where the last stands of old growth are in our remote valleys and mountains. I hope our children and their children will get to see it, touch it it in its living glory not stripped but clad. On the verge of extinction, on the verge of survival. Three more years, or a thousand?
It's good to be recognized as world-class by such a credible organization as ICET. PAWS is about to begin construction of Bliss Portage Hut next week. Since we are living in the days of COVID-19 the crew requests very emphatically that there be no visitors due to crew members having to live in an isolation bubble.
A new footbridge has been built across Tla'amin Creek. It connects the eastern with the western sections of the Tla'amin Trails network. An official opening will be held in September.
*TRAIL STATUS UPDATE* - The trail and outhouses are open. Some signs have been removed, but all HUTS remain CLOSED until further notice. Stay safe & healthy. : Emily Beaudoin Art
