Covid Changes at the Trails After a great deal of discussion the Executive and Directors have made the following changes at our trials, to make them safe for ou...r members during this pandemic: Close Gerry’s Place. Warm Up Cabin Break up the Jack Rabbit program into two separate groups and time slots to keep numbers low. Add a second entrance to the Sawmill Trail from the end of the parking lot. Spread out ski racks to promote social distancing. Post appropriate signs advising people to social distance. Ask members to wear masks in the parking lot and ski rack areas. Masks can be removed once out on the trails provided skiers stay 6 feet apart. Encourage skiers to not congregate in groups, do your ski and head home. Implement an online day pass purchase interface and encourage e transfers. If it gets too busy (parking lots exceeding capacity) switch to members only trails. Hire two ambassadors to work on weekends, to act as parking attendants, advising people of Covid policies, and assisting in day pass purchases and other matters. Clean port-a-potties once a day Place signage on trails outlining Covid protocols. Cancel in person races and switch to virtual events. We feel that implementing these changes will keep people safe and our trail open. If Grey Bruce goes into the red zone, our trails will be for club members only and we will have to implement tracking of people on the trails. This will be done through an online registration process.

DO YOU LOVE THE BRUCE PENINSULA? VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Wiarton Rotary has provided a donation of $7500 to the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association to assist with ...their Phragmites Removal Project. Funds donated this year, will go towards the Oliphant project, which involves a number of community groups, working in collaboration to remove and prevent the spread of invasive phragmites. Please come help a South Bruce Peninsula community that is rallying to make a difference and remove invasive phragmites from its shores! Volunteers and staff of a number of organizations have been hand cutting and using mechanical methods to cut the plant, in order to drown it. They have raised funds to bring an amphibious cutter (Truxors) to Oliphant, for 3 days this summer! Wiarton Rotary’s donation is enabling the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association to cut a key area for the 3rd year in a row, for a 4th day of cutting. Other organizations involved are: The Oliphant Fishing Islands Phragmites Community Group, the Oliphant Campers Association, Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, and The Invasive Phragmites Control Centre, with assistance from the Town of South Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound Ledgerock (Wiarton Site). We are seeking volunteers! PLEASE VOLUNTEER WITH: Rotarians Friends of Rotary The Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association Oliphant Community Volunteers Thurs. VOLUNTEER INFORMATION An amphibious cutter (Truxor) will be cutting phragmites. Another amphibious machine will pick up the phrag with a large rake, and place it on a barge. Volunteers are needed to gathering up stray pieces of phrag to prevent them from floating away and taking root. This work requires able-bodied people who are comfortable standing in water that is from thigh to above waist level. Please contact Wendy Rodgers, above, if you are interested in helping out and we will forward you information about what to wear and bring. What to wear and bring: You need to cover your legs and feet, because cut phrag can be sharp! Suggestions: - wetsuit, or light cotton pants or tight - old running shoes Lifejacket Sunscreen Hat Bag lunch Water Equipment, if you happen to have it: 1. Our intrepid Father-Daughter team of Scott and Acadia epic paddle continues. Currently hunkered down in Providence Bay for a day or two of rest with some stiff ...winds in the forecast. Our Friends head out in just over a week's time! Scott and his daughter Acadia are attempting to paddle tandem on a Blu Wave expedition touring SUP from Drummond Island, MI, USA to Penetanguishene, ON, CA. 475km over the month of July. They will be collecting water samples along the route, and scanning for micro plastics in Lake Huron's three bodies of water. North Channel, Lake Huron proper, and Georgian Bay.
