Super Series 8 Kapuskasing Figure Skating Competition

AN OPEN THANK YOU LETTER January 19, 2020 As Chair of the Super Series #8 Kapuskasing figure skating competition held in our town on January 17 - 19, 2020, m...y name is simply a place filler on a bid that was submitted to Skate Ontario exactly 12 months ago. The amount of support the organizing committee has received over the past 12 months and especially over the last 3 days has helped us put on an amazing skating weekend for all the competitors. None of this weekend would have been possible without so many people and organizations. I feel it’s imperative to touch on a few contributions and I apologize if I forget anyone, there has been so many! Thank you to Skate Ontario for accepting our bid and selecting Kapuskasing and the Kapuskasing Figure Skating Club to be the host of Super Series #8. Thank you to all the skaters, coaches, parents/guardians and skating families for registering and choosing to attend Super Series #8 Kapuskasing, without you there would be no reason to host such an event. Thank you to the Skate Ontario Events Coordinator that attended, as well as all of the Skate Ontario Vounteers needed to run such an event: 1 Technical Representative, 1 Chief Data Specialist, 3 Computer Data Specialists and 10 Judges/Evaluators. Without your dedication and expertise to this sport this weekend could never have happened. Thank you to the Town of Kapuskasing, their team of employees and to the best Arena Guys out there. If you’ve ever had to travel around the province to various arenas, you’ll soon figure out that our Sports Palace is an impressive facility, we’re very fortunate. As for our Arena Guys, no task is too big and no task is too smallwe can always count on them all. Thank you to the Kapuskasing Curling Club for modifying their schedule this weekend allowing us to rent their facility as a a results posting centre and an Awards Lounge. Thank you to Rachelle/René Poitras and their entire team at the Sports Palace Snack Bar and Canteen for your great service and for keeping everyone fuelled with great food. Thank you to the entire Organizing Committee. Your diligence, hard work, dedication and willingness to attend meetings and get the job donedid that, we got the job done gang, BRAVO. Thank you to the Sponsorship Committee who recruited some great supporters. Our Sponsors deserve so much recognition! Your generous contributions have definitely helped off-set the cost of this competition! Thank you to Val-Albert Motors for providing the Shuttle Van and driver to transport all of our Skate Ontario Officials and to la Fromagerie Kapuskoise for providing all of the cheese for the FREE Cheese Sampling for all participants and spectators. If you missed coming out this weekend then you also missed the opportunity to snack on some great cheese! I wish I could list you all here, but this letter would be too lengthy. Thank you to Moose FM CKAP 100.9 Kapuskasing/CKHT 94.5 Hearst & CKGN La voix d’chez nous for promoting us on air and including our event in their community calendars. Thank you to the Vendors who chose to drive up here, set-up and make themselves available to all the skating families. To Christine of the Boutique Step Up for taking care of our skaters’ apparel needs and to Liz and Cameron from Winning Techniques for taking care of photography and videography services, allowing us to cherish memories of our skaters. Thank you to the over 625 people who visited the arena this weekend to come out and cheer on our skaters. Your support made it a great weekend for our skaters. Thank you to our volunteers! You know who you are! You are current skaters, former skaters, current skate moms/dads, former skate moms/dads, board members, organizing committee members, high school students, aunts, grandmas and grandpas! It takes a dedicated group of people to organize a Skate Canada TEST Day (in conjunction with a competition), then to plan, set-up, decorate, obtain sponsors, find donors, manage social media accounts, play music, announce skaters, sign in skaters, sign-in/sign-out music, run results, run data cards, run music, post results, present awards, ice captains, take care of hospitality, manage 50/50 table, manage Reverse Penny Sale, manage Find the Joker Table, manage the cheese sampling table, sell flowers, sell programs, collect gate fees and at the end of the weekend, take it all downand you did it. You ALL DID IT, you did it all as part of a team, you gave your heart and souls and it showed. Your efforts did not go unnoticed by anyone. I’m going to be the Judge for a minute, and give you all a Gold Medal and rank you all #1. Thank you to you all, my heart over floweth with gratitude that you all chose to contribute to make this weekend a success and make Super Series #8 Kapuskasing 2020 an event that will forever be etched in the memories of these amazing skaters and their skating families.
