Tune in to hear my perspective on breaking into the green economy with @cspvictoria! There have been many points along my journey where I’ve asked myself, Should I drop everything I’m doing to help other women and marginalized people start their own cool social enterprises? It’s important to create an economy that supports fresh, new, progressive ideas. I think we can all agree that we can’t continue to sustain the planet the way we are going and these are exactly the typ...es of ideas we need to solve big environmental and social problems! Yes diversity helps drive productivity and profits but it’s all about the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. Inclusion is the only way to solve these issues with the creativity they require. Sign up to hear me, Ashley Howe, alongside Elysia Glover from @communitymicrolendingsociety and Ruth Mojeed with @the.inclusionproject with the link in bio. . . . #creativereuse #zerowaste #yyjarts #yyjdesign #yyjartist #yyjevents #yyj #victoriabc #yyjfamily #upcycle #vancouverisland #victoria #supplyvictoria #recycledcrafts #diy #savedfromlandfill #sustainableartist #ecoconcious #dontthrowitaway #repurpose #greeneconomy #inclusion See more

VOTE for SUPPLY Help us get funding so we can support newcomer artists & climate justice! Cast your ballot with the link in bio. The @cityofvictoria has launched their Participatory Budgeting initiative where you get to vote which community project should receive funding. And SUPPLY happens to be one of them! How would we use this funding? SUPPLY is looking to launch The Justice Shop a consignment store where local immigrant and refugee artists can sell their handmade... goods using repurposed materials. The Justice Shop provides makers with materials diverted from the landfill as well as workshop training to help turn their craft into marketable skill-sets. These workshops help create more financial security and fun, diverse, hands-on learning opportunities in our Victoria community. Climate justice is social justice! So vote now and show your support. Many thanks & much love.

You: Rag rug hooking?! What’s that? It sounds like medieval torture... SUPPLY: That’s a common mistake! Actually, rag rug hooking is a rug making technique, kind of like latch hooking, with scrap fabric. You: Oh. That’s disappointing. As a consolation can I learn rag rug hooking, just in case I ever need to make a rug of my own?... SUPPLY: As a matter of fact, we’re hosting a free, outdoor workshop this Saturday, September the 19th at 1:30pm, in the Royal Athletic Park off Cook Street. You: How can I trust you? SUPPLY: We’ve invited a talented local craftsperson to lead the workshop. Their name is Caitlin Gallupe aka @_onislandtime_. Not only are they a capable instructor, they're also trustworthy and kind. You: I’m feeling a bit lazy and I would like to know if there are any requirements on my end besides showing up at the park... SUPPLY: All you have to do if you’d like to attend is RSVP by emailing [email protected] or clicking on the link in our bio.
