Food, Fun and Advocacy is a video produced through Nanaimo Foodshare's Setting the Table project. The video profiles the 'Nanaimo Self Advocates' a group of peo...ple with diverse abilities who are engaged in Nanaimo Foodshare's 'Good Food Box' and Community Kitchens 'Cooking out of the Box' programs. The participation of the Self Advocates in these programs is as much about building friendships and community connections as it is about accessing nutritional food and learning new skills. Self-Advocacy refers to a world-wide civil rights movement representing the rights, the views and interests of people with disabilities (diverse abilities). Setting the Table is a project of Nanaimo Foodshare in partnership with Manly Media. Partial funding was provided by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program with additional support from Berwick on the Lake Retirement Community, the City of Nanaimo and Literacy Central Vancouver Island.
