I feel I need to share this information about some local heroes that do not get the recognition they deserve. On Saturday, August 29, the Grand Bend Beach Patr...ol were alerted to 2 swimmers in distress off the Oakwood Beach. At the time, the Main Beach was Red Flagged (no swimming allowed) due to the large waves and dangerous currents. They immediately responded to the situation, which was outside of their area of responsibility, and pulled two adult males from the water. One of the victims was not breathing and had no pulse. They performed CPR and after 5 minutes were able to regain a pulse. The patient was attempting to breath on his own, although water was still filling his airway (aspiration), by the time he was transported by ambulance to hospital. According to OPP, the patient was still in hospital but conscious, later that night. The members of the Grand Bend Beach Patrol have one of the toughest jobs out there. Daily keeping thousands of people safe by recognizing and preventing potentially life threatening situations is exhausting, incredibly stressful and should never be allowed to go unnoticed or unappreciated. Springing into action and risking their own lives when the situation literally becomes life or death is deserving of the moniker, Hero. On August 29, 2020, The Grand Bend Beach Patrol saved a man from dying at the hands of Lake Huron. They are Heroes and should be recognized as such. Thank a lifeguard, today. Brian Dale.
