Wishing all our SSW friends and family a very Happy New Year!! May 2021 be filled with love, laughter and good health .... and hopefully some dancing!!
An oldie but always a goodie. Hope you are all staying safe and well during the holidays. It will be different for sure but we can make the best of any situation if it helps to come out good the other side.
We will dance again ... Have faith and believe ... that’s what this season is all about.
As we remember Wes Kehler ... We lost one of our long time members Wes Kehler this week and we wish to remember and honour him. This tribute was put together by Bonnie Hartup (thank you Bonnie). Wes and Mildred Kehler joined the Surrey Square Wheelers around 1992. Wes spoke of recalling that our current beginner/mainstream caller, Krista, was just a baby when he and Mildred joined. From the beginning they formed friendships with several members and volunteered to help wh...Continue reading
Things have been pretty quiet in the square dance world (as far as I know). Anything exciting going on with you? Who has their Christmas decorations up already? (yes or no - it's all good :-) ).
Happy Friday. It’s been a while ... how is everyone doing?
#wheredidwebegin It's always great to know how things got started. Well, for your information and reading enjoyment, Bonnie Hartup has done up a great article of how Surrey Square Wheelers came to be. And Verna Brown was the creator of the amazing poster to go along with it. Thank you ladies! Enjoy! https://bit.ly/3iD0Dfk
It’s been a little bit since the last post. Just wanted to pop in and say #Hello. How is everyone doing? Let’s have a bit of fun ... how many songs can you think of that has hello, or a version of it, in the title or lyrics? It will be nice when we can actually say it in person to more people ... but for now ... Hello!
Dance like no one else is there ... oh yea right ... they aren’t.
A friend shared this and I think it’s definitely worth sharing as well. During these different times don’t forget that a wave or a smile, even from 2 meters apart, can make a difference in someone’s day.
Enough is enough I say. The calendar says July!! Anyone else feel like "Dancing in the Rain"? :-) How's everyone doing? Check in below and let us know ...
... or maybe a nightmare if they’re not going where you want them to. But I bet we’re all looking forward to waking up soon, having this all behind us (at a safe distance) and seeing everyone we have been missing.
We may not be able to enjoy square dancing with our friends but I hope you are finding a way to keep your feet moving to a beat!
Did you have this event in your calendar? Hopefully written in pencil as it's another one to be erased for this year ... :-( Maureen was informed that Chase the Fun (area 9 event) scheduled for June 19-21, has been cancelled. I'm sure that anyone who had already registered, has been informed, but just in case ...
#StayingConnected While we are all practicing social distancing and isolation, people have been very creative with staying in touch with friends and family. Our own Maureen Wilson’s 6 year old granddaughter has been using 'messenger video' to call her (at all times of the day ...). And her regular Saturday morning coffee group (one of whom has moved to Kelowna) has been meeting via Facebook messenger once a week. Even her TOPS chapter has been having online meetings via... ZOOM. It's a great way to 'see' everyone in this time of isolation. Maureen shares that Walter has been keeping in touch with his daughter and grandchildren in Monte Creek by using Facetime. For some, it’s taken a while to get used to the various options of connecting, while for others, they were connecting right from the beginning ... 4 SSW couples have been meeting for dinner once a week - FACETIME dinner parties. On Friday May 15th they even celebrated Jurgen’s Birthday with a German themed dinner menu. A truly memorable time with their Square Dance family. (Belated birthday wishes Jurgen! ). How are you keeping in touch with those important people in your life? Feel free to share a photo of some of your connecting moments.
Here’s a reminder of a few upcoming events that have been cancelled ... Rally in the Valley scheduled for June 5th - 7th has been cancelled. ... Festival 2020 -- now moved to July 2021 It is with deep regret that we inform you of the postponement of the 2020 Canadian National Square Dance Festival in Surrey, BC. The committee has elected to postpone our convention, and our new dates will be July 8-10, 2021. The location will remain the Sheraton Hotel in Surrey, BC. The new slogan is ‘More fun in 21!’ FVSRDA Gala 2020 cancelled Gala 2020, which was to be held on September 19, 2020, has been cancelled out of safety and wellness for our fellow dancers and visitors.
Are you looking to dance by yourself? Slow this down and learn the steps. You’ll either be really fit or really tired by the end of it. But wow! look at them go!
Updates to the updates to the updates ... :-) (see below). Thanks Maureen for keeping us in the loop ...
I believe quite a few of you had this marked on your calendar ... Rally in the Valley (Chilliwack) A decision by the Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers Executive to cancel the 2020 Rally in the Valley has unfortunately been made.... A letter will be sent out to all Rally people who have registered regarding refunds. Ads will be placed in The Valley Circle and Facebook. We certainly have a lot to look forward to for next year! Stay healthy.
