MEDIA RELEASE: Vaccination Rollout Needs to Utilize Unique Spaces as Vaccination Sites The Surrey Board of Trade asks the BC Government and the Provincial Health Officer to consider utilizing unique spaces such as banquet halls, cinema spaces, and others as vaccination sites. Many large venue spaces are currently shut down with no revenue being generated due to provincially mandated shutdowns. These businesses are losing thousands of dollars per day until there are enough peo...ple vaccinated to lift the restrictions. In order to get businesses open, we need enough vaccines, and the spaces to administer the vaccines. We need to think innovatively, said Anita Huberman, CEO Surrey Board of Trade. Utilizing underused spaces that have been largely vacant for much of the pandemic could be an effective way to expedite vaccinations. The Government needs to look at non-traditional vaccination sites and provide some level of compensation to venue owners. Another point to note is the issue of a shortage of vaccine administrators. We need to get more people trained and ready to administer the vaccine in an efficient manner. A detailed letter has been sent to the BC Government by the Surrey Board of Trade. -30- Anita Huberman, 604-634-0342, [email protected]

The Province already administers the grant for rural homeowners. FINANCIAL BUSINESS SUPPORT AVAILABLE FOR SURREY BUSINESSES -- Pandemic Support The Surrey Board of Trade Pandemic Rapid Response Business Centre is making you aware of the following program for you to determine eligibility and to apply. The Small and Medium-Sized Business Recovery Grant program will invest up to $300 million in targeted financial support for some of the hardest hit businesses in B.C. that employ between two and 149 B.C. residents and have experienced declines... in revenue since March 10, 2020. Grants of $10,000 to $30,000 are available. An additional $5,000 to $10,000 grant is available to eligible tourism-related businesses that have been hit especially hard by COVID-19. The program runs until March 31, 2021 or until the funds are fully allocated, whichever comes first. The program happens in 5 steps: Step 1: Businesses apply for funding and provide information to demonstrate that they meet the eligibility criteria. Step 2: A business that meets the eligibility criteria is matched with a professional services provider who will help develop a recovery plan or assess the business’s current plan (a value up to $2,000 in professional services, in addition to the grant amount). Step 3: Once a recovery plan is developed, submitted and approved, funding is provided to the business to implement the actions outlined in their recovery plan. Step 4: Businesses must provide regular updates that account for the spending and status of their recovery efforts supported by the grant funding. Step 5: All businesses must agree to participate in a third-party audit at the end of the program. https://www2.gov.bc.ca//economic-/business-recovery-grant Contact Anita Huberman [email protected]
