Twenty years ago, the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society partnered with the YMCA, providing $350,000, to build the Tong Louie YMCA in Surrey. Today we are ...proud to announce our recommitment to the community providing an additional $150,000 for accessibility improvements. The current drop-off zone at the Centre is constrictive and did not contemplate the size or volume of usage by disabled people. Improvements will include expanding the drop-off zone to accommodate handi-dart drop-off, and parking without interfering with parking lot traffic. This important improvement also includes an improved access ramp into the facility. The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society Accessibility Ramp will be a crucial part of this project. This brings our lifetime giving to $500,000. Your Surrey Fire Fighters are community focused and community driven.

It was an absolute honour last evening for our Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society to win this years Surrey Board of Trade Business Excellence Award, in the... non for profit resiliency category. It has been a unique year to say the least. Over the SFFCS decades in operation, we have reached significant milestones, most recently and notable is when we surpassed $1,000,000 raised in a single year, supporting over 85 initiatives. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our ability to raise funds; however, this has not deterred us from being there for those who rely on us. Thank you to the SBOT, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and all of the sponsors for hosting last night’s virtual awards ceremony. It was amazing to hear the success stories, congratulations to all of the nominees and winners. We have been operating in the City of Surrey for 26 years and have no plans to stop. On and off duty, you can count on us to be there.

A Charitable Legacy The Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society was officially established in 1994 and has now been operating in Surrey for over 25 years. However, fire fighters have been changing lives in Surrey for well over half a century. This photo, from the mid 60s, captures Surrey Fire Fighter Association Members, Badge #1 & #2 Harold Barge and Alex Red Powell, repairing childrens toys for Christmas presents and special occasions, at Fire Hall 13. ... This was the beginning of our charitable efforts. It was that leadership of Surreys first two Professional Fire Fighters that created a culture of giving back to our community that has allowed us to transition to the charitable society we have today. Without knowing, those who came before us were creating a legacy. The Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society has truly become Surreys Charity. We are now supporting over 80 initiatives throughout the City, which includes support for Health Care, Mental Health, Community Based Programs and Disaster Assistance. With the support of the community and all of the members of the SFFCS, in recent years we have been able to raise $1,000,000 annually, with every dollar raised dedicated to helping those in need. It is the caring, kindhearted actions, and leadership from the past, that continues to inspire us today. A message from the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund SUBJECT: JULY 2020 BURN CAMP CANCELLATION DUE TO COVID-19 Dear Burn Fund Community, ... We hope you and your families are safe and well. We are reaching out to let you know that the Burn Fund and the Burn Camp Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel Burn Camp 2020. This is the first time in Burn Camps 27-year-long history that Camp has been cancelled. We understand that is an incredibly meaningful experience for both burn survivors and for the volunteers who make Camp a reality. And it was not a decision that we made lightly. The safety of our entire Burn Camp is our top priority. In the current climate, we did not feel we could guarantee the safety of all attending Burn Camp at this time. As an organization representing fire fighters across BC, we are responding to the COVID-19 crisis in a proactive manner to protect our campers, our families and our volunteers. The Burn Fund and the Burn Camp Committee shared this news with our Burn Camp counsellors yesterday, our families earlier today, and now, with our extended Burn Fund family. We are heartbroken by this decision and are focused on now supporting our Burn Camp community. We are working on a special online activity to bring us together during our traditional camp week this summer and will be arranging care packages for campers. Fire fighters have been so generous in supporting Burn Camp. We rely upon the generosity of Locals around BC to support much-needed burn survivor resiliency programming, including Burn Camp, Little Lionhearts and THRIVE. Funds raised for Burn Camp for 2020 will be designated to our virtual camp activities, camp care packages this summer, and to our extended Burn Camp programs - Little Lionhearts for our youngest survivors and their families, and THRIVE for our oldest campers.
