The SEMO Foundation supports Surrey charities every year with their Inspire Gala. This year, because of Covid-19, they’ve created an online auction in hopes of raising donations for the food bank, the Surrey Christmas Bureau and other local charities. This year, the students and organizing committee had to pivot from how the food drive normally takes place, so that they could host the event, and as our numbers continue to rise, we are grateful they did! Every Wednesday is Tiny Bundles day at the food bank. A time when families who are registered in the program can access services away from the hustle and bustle of our regular distribution. Tiny Bundles families received the same food as all other clients, but are able to get baby food, formula, diapers, and other baby specific items as needed (and if available). As a bonus, and thanks to our donors, Tiny Bundles parents receive a layette as a baby gift when their baby is bor...n and a graduation gift package when the baby turns one and the family reverts to regular distribution. Typically, the folks at ILWU Local 502 host a hockey tournament each year to raise funds for the food bank. This year however, due to Covid-19, they had to look at things a bit differently; and decided to hold a raffle, did some fundraising through Facebook, and a couple of other activities. Today, representatives popped by with this amazing donation, that will be used to purchase warehouse equipment that we really need.
