Surrey RCMP are warning that a toxic batch of drugs is being distributed after three people died suddenly of suspected drug overdoses in a 12-hour period. Police arrested a man allegedly connected to the overdoses Thursday afternoon. The three overdose victims are not believed to have known each other. ... In a statement, the RCMP say it is dangerous to use non-prescription drugs purchased from unregulated sources, but anyone who makes that choice should follow several safety measures. Those measures include not using drugs alone and being careful about dosage size. Police say users should also have a naloxone kit capable of reversing overdoses and should call 911 immediately if they or anyone else needs medical assistance. Officers arrested a 19-year-old man in the area of 200 St. and 72 Ave. in Langley, who they believe to be potentially connected to the overdose deaths. During the arrest, police located and seized multiple doses of suspected blue and purple fentanyl, crystal meth and crack cocaine," said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Elenore Sturko in a written statement adding that other items consistent with drug trafficking were also seized. "It is believed the blue and purple fentanyl is potentially lethal and they are warning drug users against consumption of this drug," Sturko's statement read.

The Surrey Langley SkyTrain @translink project continues to move forward with a new round of public engagement that starts today. This round of public engagement offers a look at new station designs and seeks feedback on construction management plans. Engagement runs between September 18 and October 4. The Surrey Langley SkyTrain is a key priority for the region to help manage future planned growth so it is important that we get the project shovel-ready, says TransLink CEO ...Kevin Desmond. While we deferred this round of public engagement from spring to fall due to COVID-19, we are keen to resume this work and forge ahead safely. That is why we are working with senior governments to prepare for project approval so that we can then start the procurement process to secure a project contractor for construction. The Mayors Council and TransLinks Board of Directors endorsed the projects business case in January 2020, which is currently under review by senior governments. TransLink is moving forward with this step now as we continue to evaluate our financial position and determine when procurement can commence. With approximately $1.63 billion in available funding, subject to business case approval by senior governments, the full line could be constructed in stages. This round of public engagement seeks feedback on how we can: Minimize construction impacts on local traffic. Effectively communicate with businesses and residents. Incorporate the character of surrounding neighbourhoods in public art opportunities at the new SkyTrain stations. Feedback will help to inform project planning. Until October 4, we invite the public to take the online survey, participate in a telephone town hall and webinar, and view new station designs. #translink #translinkbc #surrey #langley #skytrain @bc_transit

Henry has become a national figure during her time leading B.C.s response to the COVID-19 pandemic British Columbias top doctor says shes received death threats in her role as a public figure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says shes had to have security in her home and has been targeted with death threats, along with abusive letters and phone calls to staff.... She says she believes its partly due to her status as a woman in a high-profile position, and that people feel comfortable targeting her in ways they would not necessarily do to male leaders. Henry has become a national figure during her time leading B.C.s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with shoe designer John Fluevog naming a pair of shoes after her. Her comments came during a panel presentation at the Union of B.C. Municipalities on leadership during the pandemic alongside Lt.-Gov. Janet Austin and former Tsawwassen chief Kim Baird. Henry says its important to discuss these issues when trying to mentor the next generation of leaders. #dr #bonniehenry #threats #bc #surrey #provincialofficer The Canadian Press

An investigation by the Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team has led to an arrest and charges laid against David Liu, in relation to a series of residential break-ins in Surrey and Langley within the past month. Read more: ow.ly/hmST50Bx0dK Surrey 2020-09-21 09:21 PDT... File # 2020-141607, 2020-129491, 2020-142961, 2020-143194 An investigation by the Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team (PCTT) has resulted in an arrest and charges against a man in relation to a series of break-ins within the past month which occurred in Surrey and Langley. This investigation began in response to a noted rise in residential break and enters that occurred in the areas of Guildford and Fleetwood, taking place around the end of July and into September. Many of the break and enters were noted to have similar earmarks, such as suspect vehicle descriptions, and methods used by the suspect, or suspects. The Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team took conduct and focused on identifying who, if any prolific property crime offenders, were operating in the area of the noted increase. As a result, a suspect was identified and the investigation culminated in a search warrant at a residence in the 16700-block of 85A Avenue in Surrey on September 12, 2020, which led to the seizure of numerous stolen items. As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old, David Sinh Liu of Surrey, is facing ten charges related to seven separate incidents of residential breaking and entering. This investigation is still ongoing. When investigating increases in property crime it is not uncommon for our team to see a significant number of incidents attributed to a single person or small network of individuals, says Sergeant Robert Dalphond, of the Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team. Thats why coordinated work between investigators and criminal analysts is an essential part of our strategy to tackle property crime. For more information on preventing your home from becoming a target of property crime, visit our Surrey RCMP website. Anyone with information regarding property crime in Surrey is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if you wish to make an anonymous report, please contact

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries were making steady progress in tackling tuberculosis (TB), with a 9% reduction in incidence seen between 2015 and 2019 and a 14% drop in deaths in the same period. High-level political commitments at global and national levels were delivering results. However, a new report from WHO shows that access to TB services remains a challenge, and that global targets for prevention and treatment will likely be missed without urgent action and investments. Looking to buy an electric car? Heres why they may be harder to find TORONTO The COVID-19 pandemic has pummelled Canadas automobile industry but its the lack of supply thats helping to short-circuit electric vehicle adoption across the country. Electric vehicle sales plunged along with gasoline-fuelled models in the second quarter of the year, when dealerships joined widespread lockdowns to prevent the viruss spread. As the economy reopens, consumers are starting to r...eturn to auto showrooms but finding an electric vehicle continues to be a problem, especially outside Quebec, British Columbia and Ontario. A series of roadblocks are contributing to the shortfall, including battery shortages and manufacturers prioritizing shipments to China and Europe rather than North America. Funding for innovation highlights responsible mining summit @brucehralston @governmentofbc Ralston, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, opened the first day of the B.C. Responsible Minerals and Metals Virtual Summit by highlighting the role that innovation will play in the future of responsible mining. While speaking online to representatives from industry, Indigenous Nations, environmental organizations, the investment community and government, Ralston announc...ed $2 million in funding for MineSense Technologies Ltd. through the Provinces Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund. MineSenses work is a great example of the type of made-in-B.C. #innovation that supports our goal of responsible raw-material extraction, Ralston said. The future of mining in this province will require greater collaboration between B.C.s tech and mining sectors, so that cutting-edge technology like this can help advance responsible mining. The #ICE funding will help the Vancouver-based company promote and sell its scalable digital-sensing platform. The platform gives mine equipment operators a real-time estimate of the ore grade at the point of extraction and enables mines to optimize metal recovery. The predictive on-bucket technology is being demonstrated on wire-rope shovels at the Highland Valley Copper Mine. Ralston also spoke about the Mining Innovation Roadmap, one of the recommendations stemming from the Mining Jobs Task Force. The roadmap will be a forward-looking, co-ordinated plan to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities presented by the transformation of B.C.s mining sector, which is being driven by digitization, automation and workforce transformation. It will be released in the coming weeks. The three-day summit, hosted by the #Province, is another recommendation of the task force. It will focus on the opportunity B.C. has to play an important role in the global movement to responsible sourcing of raw materials and the transition to a low-carbon economy. It also addresses the importance of environmental, social and corporate governance in the future of mining. The summit will continue with sessions on Sept. 15 and Sept. 30.
