The Surrey Newton Rotary Club is hosting an online GoFund Me fundraiser where all proceeds will help support Starfish Pack Project, Mental Health awareness and local mental health organizations in our community. As many of you are aware, the Surrey Newton Rotary Club holds an annual fundraising dinner event to support a local or international community project. This year we invite you to show your support for the very important topics of Starfish Pack Project, which provides ...food for children of low income families, and Mental Health through a new venue due to the COVID-19 pandemic an online fundraiser. The Starfish Pack Backpack Program was created in response to teachers hearing the cry of their students. Teachers were heartbroken to hear their students were coming to class Monday morning hungry, reporting that they had not eaten over the weekend. Sadly, 400 elementary school children have been identified by the Abbotsford School District as being in need of food over the weekend. Now over 300 backpacks are packed with food and are going home with the students over the weekend from 35 different schools. Mental health challenges and disorders can happen to anyone. Mental health affects individuals and families across all ages including children, youth, adults and seniors and all races and social classes. Mental health challenges and disorders may include (not limited to): anxiety post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) autism psychosis ADHD schizophrenia behavioral disorders substance use challenges bipolar disorder depression & depressive disorders eating disorders emotional regulation (dealing with grief and loss suicide infant mental health Tics and Tourette’s syndrome Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown to affect mental health in many ways for individuals and families. We all hear of many stories on a daily basis of those who are impacted by the stress and anxiety of social isolation, caretaking of children and/or family members in high risk categories and uncertainty with respect to unemployment. No one is immune to the impacts of mental health. Our goal is to reach $20,000 we are positive that as in previous years, this will be possible with the generous support of individuals and local businesses in our community. Please donate. Every donation will make a difference! With gratitude, Pam Bhullar & Sandra Gill Co-Presidents Surrey Newton Rotary Club https://www.gofundme.com/f/surrey-newton-rotary-mental-heal
