Cheers to the end of a busy week that included a vocal health webinar for teachers! The webinar was a joint venture with @thewellteacherca supported by @bcteachersfederation @thewellteacher stated importantly that teachers need to be able to take care of themselves first in order to care for and educate their students.... Vocal health is a priority. There are many stressors in our day to day right now that can interfere with vocal health. Important take away do not ignore early signs of voice changes. For all the information we shared you can go to surreyvoiceclinic.com/resources for the handout and link to the webinar.Link in bio. Take care and stay well.

You are a vocal athlete. Different athletic activities require different levels of fitness and endurance, whether it is on a playing field or stage. In general, you can expect some level of fatigue in response to activity. But when things start to not feel right vocally, it may be time to investigate this a bit further. Questions to ask yourself: ... -Does my vocal training match my vocal goals and activity? (am I training for a 5k but signing up for a marathon?) -Do I have the right training schedule for my goals or upcoming performance? -Is the fatigue I am feeling the result of building endurance and strength, or hindering my ability to train and perform? Vocal fatigue is an active area of research with lots of attention towards perceived fatigue and physiologic changes of the vocal fold muscles with speaking and singing tasks. We know a lot but there is a lot to learn. One thing we do know is your singing teacher and your speech-language pathologist/voice therapist can help you manage fatigue, improve knowledge of your instrument, and help set you on the right path towards achieving your vocal goals! #slp #voicetherapy #speechpathology #voicedisorders #teamwork #laryngology #larynx #singingteacher #voice #singing #vocalhealth

Managing vocal hygiene gets tougher in these conditions. Stay well hydrated, manage upper respiratory symptoms. Lay low and avoid a lot of activity. If you are coughing, try to breathe in through your nose when you can instead of gasping in through your mouth between coughs. Steam will help thin and move thicker secretions in your mouth and nose. ... Gentle humming can also help move secretions in your nose and throat and will keep your vocal fold tissue moving gently in a healthy way. Take good care, stay well, stay safe. #vocalhygiene #voicecare

A common question. How long will voice therapy take? My common response - You and I will not be in a long-term relationship. Many voice issues can be taken care of in as few as 1-4 voice therapy sessions. While there are several reasons someone might experience a voice disorder, elimination of hoarseness and laryngeal muscle tension can happen quickly. ... There are certainly some cases that take longer but we are always striving to improve your voice, achieve your goals, and get you back to all your vocal activities as quickly as possible. #voicetherapyworks #voicedisorders #voicetherapy #laryngology #vocalhealth #speechlanguagepathology

In the midst of so much chaos and worry and adaptation and new beginnings and changes to everyday life, a reminder of what we do and why we do it! We were so lucky to squeeze in the 7th Annual Chocolate and Beer Tasting with @thefancyandthefolly and @moodyales at the beginning of March. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make year 7 our most successful to date for @parkinsonsbc and all the great work they do for the community. We don't know what 8 will look like but we will let you know! @ Vancouver, British Columbia

More support for the importance of voice. We take cues everyday from peoples voices. Happy, sad, sick, nervous, calming, loving... It is amazing to see more research into voice signals and the possibility of its ability to help with early identification of illness.
