I love watching the sunrise but honestly I love watching the sunrises pink reflection on every east face! Another beautiful morning view from #suskwalodge looking out across the field at the blue lakes glacier! If you’ve ever hiked the blue lakes trail up to the glacial lakes or ever wanted to I would encourage you to know who’s Traditional unceded Gitxsan territory it is and acknowledge them- even if it’s a simple thoughtful prayer of gratitude to these amazing chiefs who ...protect this land for the future generations! *The blue lakes drainage is a special place it’s a boundary between two Hereditary Gitxsan chiefs, traditionally you wouldn’t go into another chiefs territory without permission. This boundary is between two great chiefs who I am very fond of, Simogyet Djogaslee of Sagat and Simogyet Spookxw of Stekyawdenhl (stek-yah-w-den). The English name for Stekyawdenhl is Rocher de bule. Thank you Simogyet Spookxw for continuing to defend land rights and title while continuing to allow people to enjoy your beautiful territory. At the #suskwalodge we like to be as informed as we can in respect to who’s land we are on. The suskwa lodge is situated just below #skilokisridge which is in the first photo. Skilokis ridge is located within Simogyet Djogaslee’s traditional Gitxsan territory. This specific area is named after that first tall peak in photo 2, Sagat (sa-gah). You may recognize the second peak in photo two and three as Mt. Seaton. Mt Seaton is the boundary between the Gitxsan and Wetsuweten. ... Territorial maps are in the last two photos. I always find the chiefs near other nations territories to be so interesting. There were no street signs to go off of so the ancestors used waterways, valleys, ridges, mountains, environment features to map out their boundaries! Djogaslee’s territory Sagat runs down the Mt Seaton to the bulkley River, up the river to porphrey creek all the way up to red rose peak in the Roche mountain range! Simogyet Djogaslee has more traditional territory further north in the area we call suskwa.
