Do you love your hot showers? Make sure you’re regularly inspecting your hot water tank. A hot water tank failing when you need it the most is the last surprise you want to get. This video is from a job we did recently. Notice what happens to the water when your tank is 17 years old and hasn’t been maintained!... Few important things to check during your regular hot water tank inspection: 1) AGE: Hot water tanks generally have a lifespan of 8-12 years. More frequent checks are needed if your tank is past this age. 2) COLOUR: Check the colour of the water when you turn your tap on hot. Rust-coloured water is never a good sign! 3) LEAKS: Look for water or dried mineral deposits in the tray at the bottom of the tank. Also, check the top of the unit to see if any of the pipes, valves or connections are leaking. 4) NOISES: Beware of rumbling or high-pitched whining sounds when you turn the water on or when it’s heating the water. 5) TEMPERATURE: Make sure the temperature is adjusted to just the right level so it produces enough hot water for your needs. If you find that you’re not getting as much hot water as you used to, it could be a sign that something is wrong with the tank.
