Proper development in babies is super important for their life long journey of growth. Sitting your child in bumbos or different types of bouncy chairs puts the...ir low back into a compromised position. It adds improper pressure to the spine and tilts the pelvis backwards. This can alter the development of their natural spinal curvature and develop a dysfunctional sitting pattern, or even movement pattern. The best way for children to develop their proper sitting and movement patterns is to allow them to develop them on their own. Every child grows at their own pace, and your child may take longer to learn how to sit, but dont worry, they will gain the strength on their own when they are ready. This will allow them to stabilize their body correctly and minimize injuries later in life Key note: Dont put your child in ANY position that they havent already learnt on their own!! Is your child developing correctly? Have you been using a bumbo or bouncy chair for your child? Come see us at Evolve Chiropractic today!

Here is a straightforward guide to increasing newborn weight gain. This tips are best applied with healthy, full-term babies without tongue or lip ties. I have ...compiled this tried-and-true list in my 10 years of experience as an IBCLC. Shared with love. Read more here about breast vs bottle from the wonderful Dr. Jack Newman: https://ibconline.ca/who-transfers/ As always, if you are struggling, please reach out for help. Use a nipple shield under the guidance of a lactation consultant. Note: if your baby has oral restrictions (tongue or lip ties) they may struggle to stay awake at breast, slip off the breast easily, click, swallow air, and fall asleep before they are full. #breastfeeding #newborn #infantweightgain #preemie #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum #tonguetie #liptie

Your emotional health is just as important as your physical health. You’ve probably heard the expression a roller coaster of emotions, and it’s a pretty accur...ate description of what’s possible in a given day. The list of emotions that are experienced by humans are complex. But don’t be fearful because, not only is it normal to experience numerous feelings, it’s expected. Although all humans wonder how to be happy, seemingly negative emotions have helped humans survive dangerous situations. It’s when we deal with chronic negative emotions that our health is in jeopardy, but there are ways to regulate emotions and pinpoint emotional triggers allowing you to stay in control of your mental and physical health. If you want more tools like this, pre-order Ancient Remedies, my upcoming book that explores the foundational concepts of ancient healing, by clicking here: https://bit.ly/33DoA0B

Hey mama, your breasts wont always feel full. Feeling soft does not mean your milk went away overnight (that doesnt really happen). More likely, your milk p...roduction has shifted and is working on supply and demand, and supply is more regulated (unlike the first few months when many women feel overly full and uncomfortable!). Increased demand (more feedings) increased supply! #milksupply #supplyanddemand #endocrinesystem #autocrinesystem #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum

A milk blister, or blocked nipple pore, is also called a bleb or nipple blister. It is milk under the skin. It occurs when a tiny bit of skin overgrows a milk ...duct opening and milk backs up behind it. A milk blister usually shows up as a painful white, clear or yellow dot on the nipple or areola. Milk blisters can be persistent and very painful during feeding, and may remain for several days or weeks and then spontaneously heal when the skin peels away from the affected area. The underlying cause of a milk blister may be oversupply, pressure on that area of the breast, or the other usual causes of plugged ducts. Latch, suck, and or tongue restriction may contribute to blisters because of friction on the tip of the nipple. Use a warm washcloth to soften the bleb. Gently rub the blister. Then put olive oil on a cotton ball and soak the bleb. After heat and oil are applied, use a clean fingernail to pry it open on the edge. If this doesnt work, pump or feed baby immediately after. This will usually open up the milk blister. If not, repeat this process until it opens. Some people have had success with using a vibrating toothbrush on the area and then using a silicone pump filled with warm saline solution to draw it out. You can use 2 teaspoons of epsom salt in 1 cup of water. Sunflower lecithin can be taken daily: 1200mg, 3x a day. The reason why lecithin may help resolve and prevent plugged ducts & milk blisters is not clear. Per Dr. Jack Newman, It may do this by decreasing the viscosity (stickiness) of the milk by increasing the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the milk. Lecithin is an emulsifier (used to keep fats/oils dispersed and in suspension). #breastfeeding #bleb #milkblister #blebtreatment #sunflowerlecithin #oliveoil #epsomsalt #siliconepump #pluggedduct #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum

Babies cry for many reasons, not just because they are hungry. They might be getting plenty of breastmilk from you, but are upset for another reason. Crying is ...babys way of talking to you. He may be trying to communicate that he: is overstimulated is scared wants to be close to you needs a diaper change needs to be burped is too hot or too cold wants to do something different It can be very overwhelming when baby wont stop crying. Comfort measures to try: wear baby in a carrier rock or gently sway turn on something with a rhythmic sound like a fan that hums quietly sing the same song over and over go outside (this can work wonders!) give baby a bath massage babys arms & legs {If you are worried that baby is not getting enough breastmilk, reach out to a lactation consultant for help before offering supplementation.} Disclaimer: I am not anti-formula! If baby needs to be supplemented for a medical reason, or if family chooses to formula feed, that is fine. I share this because I see too many families who intend to breastfeed but baby gets supplemented with formula unnecessarily, early on, and it sabotages their breastfeeding goals. #breastfeeding #babycries #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum

Planning ahead for things like natural disasters isnt something most new moms consider when awaiting their little ones arrival. But its 2020...what a year! ... Planning ahead for crazy uncertainty is something we should all be thinking about. Preparing formula and even PURCHASING it can be difficult in a natural disaster situation. There is enough to worry about during those circumstances, dont let how you feed your baby be one of them! Breastmilk is teeming with bacteria that colonize the infants gut, and help set the course for babys growing immune system and metabolism developing resili...ence against conditions such as diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. (See link below to read more). Breastmilk contains a particularly beneficial type of microbe, called bifidobacteria. Bifidobacteria consume special sugars found in breast milk, called human milk oligosaccharides, that babies cannot otherwise digest. As a result, these bacteria are abundant in the guts of breast-fed infants but not of formula-fed babies. Bifidobacteria help promote gut barrier function and regulate immune system response. https://www.unicef.org.uk//epigenetics-microbiome-research/ #bifidobacteria #breastfeeding #microbiome #probiotics #immunesystem #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum

Here are 5 things you can do to be set up for success with breastfeeding: Take a prenatal breastfeeding class. Breastfeeding might be natural, but it is not ...easy for everyone! The more you know prenatally, the better. Hang out with people who are breastfeeding. Attend a local breastfeeding support group - many are online now. Listen to their stories. Talk to them about the reality of breastfeeding - the good and the hard parts. Breastfeeding friends will be some of your best postpartum support. Find an IBCLC (lactation consultant) in your area and if possible, set up a meeting with them prenatally. You will be so glad to already know that resource is there when you need it the most!!! Discuss breastfeeding with your partner. Make a list of ways that they can support you (like soothe, bathe, and cuddle baby; provide pillows for your back; limit visitors; help with chores; etc). Any unnecessary supplementation with formula can interrupt breastfeeding and lower milk supply. Make sure you dont give baby formula unless there is a medical issue. If you do need to supplement for a time, your lactation consultant can help you get back on track with exclusively breastfeeding if thats what you choose! #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum #breastfeedingclass #prenatal #breastfeedinggoals

Oh, breastfeeding mama! Your body is amazing!

Sutherland Chiropractic Clinic 10.11.2019

As a breastfeeding mama, you want to eat well to enrich and nourish your breast milk supply and to keep your body functioning at its best. That being said, mos...t foods are completely fine to eat while breastfeeding!! You do not need to have a perfect diet while nursing your child. You may have been told to avoid certain foods while nursing because they will make baby gassy, etc. Truth be told- many babies are going to be gassy no matter what you eat because they have immature digestive systems! ...so enjoy your meals & snacks and dont worry too much about it. Foods to nourish breastfeeding mamas (aim for the bulk of your diet to be these foods): 1. Lean proteins~ meats: wild caught fish, chicken, grass-fed beef, dairy: cheese & yogurt, other: eggs, beans, & legumes. 2. Fresh fruits & veggies~ eat as many colors as you can each day. 3. Healthy fats~ avocados, nuts, seeds, coconut & olive oil, omega 3s. 4. Fermented foods~ miso, sauerkraut, pickles, & kim chee 5. Spices+herbs~ many of these are antibacterial and antiviral: cinnamon, turmeric, thyme, basil, cayenne pepper, & ginger. 6. Whole grains~ brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat breads, corn tortillas, popcorn & oats. While whole-wheat breads and grains or full-fat milk and yogurt might be great choices for some breastfeeding moms, others might consider experimenting with dropping gluten and dairy. If baby regularly experiences constipation, eczema, or upset stomach, try eliminating gluten and dairyeither together or one at a time for 3-4 weeks to see which is the culprit. Re-introduce them one at a time, 2-3 days apart, noting babys symptoms. #dietandbreastfeeding #breastfeedingfoods #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #wildflowerbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactationconsultant #lactation #milkproduction #pregnancy #postpartum #dairyfreebreastfeeding #glutenfreebreastfeeding

Sometimes it is hard. Not always. Sometimes it is the steep learning curve. Sometimes we just dont want to be touched anymore. Sometimes it just isnt convenient to breastfeed. Most times, though, it isnt hard. We do make it to the top of the curve. Holding our little ones and nourishing them. Those milk drunk, sleepy smiles! Moms, you do hard things. You do them well. You do great things with love.
