Pleased to speak tonight with Lindell Smith, Councillor District 8 - Peninsula North, who is running for re-election to represent District 8 on Halifax City Council!

Proud to be able to announce the Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council's endorsement of thirteen (13) municipal council candidates in advance of the October 17th municipal elections in the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are looking forward to a municipal council in the City of Halifax that will take firm and decisive steps to end racist police practices that target Black and Indigenous people, that will end expensive "public-private partnerships" (P3's), that will end wasteful and inefficient "contracting out" of municipal services such as snow removal, and that will take further steps to implement and extend the recent council motion on a Living Wage.

Aquakultre & Friends: our special LABOUR DAY 2020 evening concert event starts now! SHARE WIDELY! The Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council, along with our amazing partners at the Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax: Festival of Working People & the Arts, are pleased to present tonight's LABOUR DAY 2020 concert with Aquakultre & Friends, which is just beginning now! In the early stages of a full and startling blossom, Aquakultre is Halifax’s most exciting act.... Working in a genre self-described as aquavibe, 28-year-old Lance Sampson displays a preternatural gift for individuation and inspiration. After a smattering of Soundcloud singles, including the effortless vibe-inducer `1 Spring Garden`, Lance Sampson opted to make Aquakultre a collective of musicians, and dropped their first LP, "Legacy" in early March. Touching on nu-blues, R&B and spacious neo-soul, Aquakultre’s distinctive, captivating persona is felt throughout. Sampson has displayed s natural gift for production, and an ear for sound since he was a child, and uses music as a means for spiritual focus. Fed up with his former musical persona, Lex, a hardcore street emcee, Sampson opted instead for Aquakultre, a title that brings with it a renewed source of energy and exploration. TONIGHT's Aquakultre & Friends evening concert (part of the full day of streaming broadcasts hosted by the Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council and Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax: Festival of Working People & the Arts for @Labour Day 2020: Aquakultre, Deirdre Lee, Beehive Collective, Zuppa Theatre Co.) has just begun! TUNE IN, and SHARE this broadcast with your friends, co-workers, family, neighbours and others! LIVE NOW! My dear friend Sakura Saunders from the Beehive Design Collective does a reading and description of the new Beehive Design Collective rhyming storybook "The True Cost of Coal". This afternoon's book launch and family reading of "The True Cost of Coal" by Sakura Saunders of the Beehive Design Collective is part of today's Halifax-Dartmouth & District Labour Council and Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax: Festival of Working People & the Arts series of online streaming broadc...asts as part of our digital/online Labour Day 2020: Aquakultre, Deirdre Lee, Beehive Collective, Zuppa Theatre Co. celebrations. "The True Cost of Coal" is fun and educational for ages 9-99, and features lessons and activities related to the story’s themes of ecology, colonial history, workers rights, extreme extraction, community organizing, and regenerative futures alongside Beehive Design Collective graphics designed specifically for colouring on. The story explores important history often left out of classroom curriculum, inspires the reader to question present-day decision-making systems, and encourages us all to envision our own role in moving towards a sustainable and regenerative future. We have weathered the ongoing worldwide health pandemic and our global economic crisis by supporting each other. We can see what happens when we turn to blame, ignore our problems, and act like everyone is in it for themselves. We must reject that, take what we learned from the pandemic, and prepare for our future. As the ongoing economic crisis and the very serious global health pandemic continues, Canada’s unions and the Canadian Labour Congress launch a new campaign today... on Labour Day to move Forward Together.
